Texas

I have a coop question... Coop will be 6x12 but with 10 ft ceiling. My roost bars will be 2, 3, and 4 ft off ground. If I add a 2.5 ft shelf along the 12 foot wall that is 5 ft high, will it add sufficient floor space to have more than 18 chickens?

Oh boy!! I have 24 two week old chicks in the brooder. Barnevelders and Wyandottes I purchased. Today I will set my own eggs. Mostly some very dark Marans, a few Swedish Flower Hens and a few frizzle easter eggers. I'm setting close to 70 eggs. Told my son how much I wish I had a garage for brooders. He commented that I would overfill that too. Darn it if he is right!!! anyway, I am way down west in Barnhart (about 50 miles from San Angelo and about 1 1/2 hrs from Midland Odessa) If anyone is wanting some great Marans chicks soon.

I'm in Lubbock, Texas. I'm rather new to this so I may have stupid questions. I'm hoping to find other Lubbock and surrounding West Texans on here.

Hi there! Glad to see ya'. Big town of Amarillo is where I hail from. I am also new to both the site and the raising process.

Shallowaterchic and jb300zx, Welcome from Rosenberg! You will find there are NO stupid questions on this forum. We have all asked them at one time or another. We have a great bunch of people on here and one in particular is extremely funny. See if you can spot him!

Lisa :)

Totally agree with regard to the weather around here. Trees are a necessity on so many levels. Lol. 59. Wow! I'm taking my opportunity to say that now because I will likely end up in the same coop. We have thirty already and I'm looking to breed some of them. Doms and Black Austras currently. Might get into breeding Ams eventually.
I keep thinking I want to breed but then I think about not being able to order chicks because why would I need to order them if I can hatch chicks...I keep talking myself out of it! There's that and the fact that I haven't been a huge fan of any of the roosters we've had, which is why we don't currently have any. There are a few that we got as packing peanuts in our Ideal order that are growing like monsters but I believe we are going to process them.

Good morning!

It sure is windy today! At least it is going to be warm. :) Watch out for that cold front coming through Sunday night though. BRRRR!!!!!!

I got some dirt delivered this morning for my raised bed. I needed to raise the soil level by the house to keep the foundation put. I have some work ahead of me for the weekend. I'd like to do it now but I need to work at my job that pays the bills.....

Can you believe it is March tomorrow?
