Got home to find that the dog had somehow gotten outside and into the pen..
No chickens were ANYWHERE, except 1 EE he had pinned to the ground...
She checked out ok. I found my too under the shed, my other BO under the back deck.
My husband and I searched for another 30 minutes before he had to go to work..
As he was leaving I accidentally left the door open and caught a glimpse of yellow rush by. My Eloise sprinted to the neighbors bushes then came to me when she heard me.
Im still missing one EE and my BR....
Im so devastated...I cant find them anywhere dont know what to do...I cant stay outside searching because the kids are sick.
My roo leaves tomorrow...
Im down to 3 pullets and my Silkies, who aren't outside yet.
I want to cry..I cant wait to get them into their more secure pen tomorrow...

Found my BR!! She somehow got into the neighbors backyard. She saw me and came running over and wouldnt leave the corner where she had seen me.
They neighbors had 2 big labs who thankfully were inside because the neighbors weren't home yet.
I started digging a hole under the fence to get to her, like a dog! Lol.
she was almost through when I heard the neighbor pull up. I panicked, knowing she'd let the dogs out, so I tried to grasp Freya to pull her through and I spooked her

So I SPRINTED to the neighbor, who ive never spoken too and asked if she could let me in her yard because my bird was back there.
She probably thinks im crazy, but I got her!
Now im just missing my "husband's" EE, "Lil Hawk"...
Im hoping she turns up

Im down to one blue layer, and she's spooked because of my dog "playing" with her.
I did spend some more time looking her over, and she gotb up and came to me when I went in the pen.
She walking fine and I didnt see any blood or anything. She's not even missing feathers.
Anything I should keep an eye out for with her?

Brookshire, I am so happy they are all coming home. I will be praying for 'Lil Hawk'. We don't need anymore tragedies on this forum for a while. Keep her quiet and watch. I watched to see if they would eat and/or drink. She will tend to stay to the coop for a while and may not even lay for a couple of days. Good luck!

Lisa :)

Yeah!!! Congrats on the chicks.

If I get my chicks in July I will have the coop done by then.  All hardware cloth wire.  I want to get them sooner though.

A dog's dish shouldn't leach anything.  It would be food safe.

If the ceramic has a fear finish over it that was fired on the bet it is food safe is high. Watch out for any that are just painted they need to be glazed. Ceramic it self will put out lead into anything that comes in contact with it unless it's glazed I use to do ceramics with my 1st wife as a side job.

There are always little cracks to the finish, so I just never use it with anything acidic.

My understanding of the problem with "metal" is the zinc coating (galvanized coatin) on all the metal feeders, etc, you buy for chickens. Zinc is toxic to birds. Personally, I wouldn't use a zinc coated (galvanized) waterer. I don't believe stainless steel is going to leach anything harmful.
OK, thanks for the info.

Glad you are finding them. :) I hope the last one shows up soon. Need some help looking? I can come over...

Lisa! Congrats on the chicks!

Laurie, are you on Facebook? Check out Ellis County Poultry.
There's a lady I found on Craig's list who has all kinds of French Marans, including Black Coppers.
I could send you her info
I'll look into it. Thanks!

I found a lady in Van Altsyne today that has silkies and cochins and Japanese somethings. Her silkies are blue and splash colors. I put in an 'order' for 3 splash silkies to be picked up in April. I am so excited!! I wish I could get the heat plate sooner.

I decided to get some sort of glass baking dish to use. I was looking at them when I was out shopping. Corningware makes a bunch of sizes and shapes.

I brought them back in the laundry room for the night. I'll make sure she's acting normal. I caught her scratching around before I brought them in so she seems ok. Poor thing. She's normally such a tough little bug too. She's my "flyer" lol Lisa :)

Things are coming together for you! How exciting!! I can't wait, I'm excited for you! I keep going out and looking around when I have a minute, but i have yet to see or hear her. My husband is being optimistic and thinks she's under the shed, where the roo was, but I feel like she would have come out by now. I did see a hawk circling after I had rounded up the bunch. I didnt see him swoop. Im hoping he wasnt looking for seconds. He didnt seem THAT big. My "chicks" are only 8 weeks but they seem pretty big..
I thought they had gone down for the night, but this little lady was sitting on top of the EcoGlow 20. Lisa :)

My neighbor came and got me: they had found Lil Hawk!
I went and picked her up out of their driveway.
I really better count my blessings tonight!
AND do a little something nice for my neighbors!
