My new auto-chicken watering system I will be installing in my coop. Horizontal Chicken nipples on a 1 inch PVC connected to a 65 gallon rain barrel by a garden hose. I'll have one in the coop and one outside the coop in the run. I figure I'll have to refill once a month maybe?



I did get some painting done on the coop. A second coat and I painted the door and window shutters. I hung the trim that I had painted last week but need to paint a bunch more. No pics because it basically looks the same.

nice set up i have the vertical nipples i want some feed back on these i wonder how you keep them from dripping? ..

here are my new heritage reds hatched last sunday.


i selected for long wide flat backs this year. these chicks really show it . the camera doesnt do thier color justice they are really dark .

that sounds good i put my chicks on the vertical ones this afternoon and in less than 15 mins they learned to drink from them. i love the nipples i have a tank and float on mine for automatic.

I have a question for those who use the vertical or horizontal nipples. What do you use in the winter when the water freezes?

During a freeze I just put fresh water in a bowl for the chickens. Here in San Antonio, the freeze is usually in the morning, by the afternoon the temp is up enough for the nipples to be working.

i still use mine if it is going to be a hard freeze like this winter we have had 3 times the temps didnt get about freezing for over 48 hours i will shut them off and drain and put them a pan of hot water out. otherwise like it gets in the high 20's i've not had any problems with them. i am close to you come up and get some ..

I've done a lot of reading on chicken nipples and I talked with the "chicken guy" about them today.

I've decided not to use them and to go with chicken waters. I want to let my birds drink the natural way. In the winter I will use a bowl so I can break the ice or I will use a heated bowl.
