Texas

I just got a text from an Iraq War vet. He wants me to build him a coop, but doesn't have much money. The coop he wants costs $500.00. I am doing it virtually at cost, and what he doesn't know is, I am throwing in 6 or 7 birds with the deal. The question I am asking is this, our "all knowing government is CUTTING the budget for the people who VOLUNTEER to go into harms way to protect us. These people have been shot at, mined, bombed, and who knows what else. I am trying to start a movement to supply these patriots a way to transition back to civilian life with very little stress. All of you know that raising chickens is very therapuetic. Some of these people come home with problems, that make it hard to return to civilian life. What do you say we help them. I am willing to give everything I have to help them. Let's start something in Texas, please give me your thoughts.

Where are you located?

Well, my hubby, the clever and resourseful man that he is, repurposed a book case we took from our deer cabin and made it into a 6 compartment nest box. I;ll take some pics tomorrow in the day light. We just finished about 8 so is dark. Looks really good. Now just have to wait and see what the girls think.

I forgot I was getting a black Ameracuana chick too. And......I just found out that I will be getting her/him on Wednesday!

I have a busy weekend ahead of me! My chicks will be a little spread out in age, but not too bad. I hope. Since the silkes will be small for some time the ones I get May 6th will be ok to add in, right? If not I'll just get another brooder.

I think my coop needs to be bigger.... LOL!!

I need to learn to sex a chick so I get a female home with me. I can give back the roo, but I would rather not have to do that. I'd cry the whole way home. :(

Thank you for staying in touich with these soldiers and giving them a little piece of home. I cannot thank you enough. If you can find it in your heart to help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated. All I am asking is to get the word out and have them get in touch with me thru this site or thru my email: [email protected]. I come from a military family, and really believe that raising chickens will help these vets adjust to civilian life.

Chickens are great therapy. Some people are not chicken people though, so don't get discouraged if not all seem enthused. I use chickens as therapy for PTSD. They are very calming.

Showbarn, how u been?

Been great! Working up a storm and hatching out chicks like popcorn!

You are correct! I'm just being impatient. But I bet I have a dozen silkies by the time my 18 layers get here in May !

I've got a game hen that loves to go broody. But I would hatch chicks for anyone as long as the person came and got them lol. I love hatching.

Wednesday as in tomorrow?

I understand that. I will not get discouraged at all. I watch my girls all the time, and I know they can help these people. I will give all I can to do this, but I am more than likely going to need help.
