My favorite AG hen died Monday
hit.gif
I found her running around with a cracked egg half hanging by a 4" egg shell "stream". I couldn't catch her (she's freegrange-roosts in the trees) & didn't see her until the next evening. I had to net her & put her in a coop. I could tell she didn't feel well, by the time I was able to give her some help I guess it was too late, she died Monday

So sorry to hear of your loss.

Hi folks, trying to make the best of a grey day. I thought we were suppose to have a few days of nice sunny warm weather. Now it looks like cloudy days and more rain on Sunday. Would like to get my garden in before too long. Thought for sure we had lost one of our hens yesterday. They freerange so we searched and shook the treat bag...nothing. Several hours later she comes strolling in...from under the house. That's a chicken for ya! Anyway think I'll make a pot of homemade veggie soup. And maybe some brownies...comfort food always helps me feel better. Good day to all! Magpie

I have several awesome brownie recipes. Here is one (no nuts in mine) and I can scan another post it if you want. Texas Brownies - Makes a half sheet pan of the best brownies you have ever had the pleasure of putting in your mouth. They have icing on them too. I think I need to make those soon. I am going to make lime cooler cookies today, so I'll do brownies later. Maybe for my son's birthday. He loves them and asks for them a lot. He is going to be 20 next week.

No more teenagers in the house. My baby can't be that old!!

Good Morning...or rather afternoon all! I awoke early to feed all my animals and chickens. They are content and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Unfortunately, I need to do some housework. Chores, chores, chores...I would be happy to be outside all day.

Oh My...those look positively sinful! I prefer mine w/o nuts also. I don't have any cocoa powder and I don't want to go to town so I will fall back on a box brownie mix this time. Going to try one that has cheesecake filling swirled thru it. Looks good on the box lol....guess I will find out. . Gonna go out and see how many of my girls have gone astray. Have a couple of left over biscuits and my chickens always make me laugh when they get treats so will enjoy a little chicken entertainment. Thanks for the post, saved the link.

This is how my Mom does it and it usually works for me if I don't chill the eggs before I peel them. The shaking method works very well for cooking with children or if you need to peel a large quantity of eggs. Put the eggs in a container that has a lid. Fill the container with 1 inch of water. Seal the container tightly with the lid. Vigorously shake the container in all directions. Be thorough. When you open the container, the eggs will be peeled. Remove any leftover shell with running water.

O WOW, this method really works and is amazing!

There were a couple that still had shells on them that were a bit difficult to remove but way easier than the methods I have tried. I still think age has something to do with it. This method was so fast I'm going to stick with it for now. Thank you

I am so sorry. Now she has angel wings.

Well I am feeling much better. The sun came out and it's beautiful now. Thought my wayward girl had gone missing again but, lo and behold she is in a nest box. Actually have three in nests. Of course they could just be there to leave me an egg but, dare I hope they are getting broody. Oh yes very much so. When Scoops didn't come out for treats (and she's usually the first) I kinda got excited and hopeful. Will go down later to see if she is still in the nest. She is such a sweet hen. My little bantam is still on her nest. I candled on day 6 and saw some shadow, (maybe just the yolk) but I haven't disturbed her since and it will be 21 days on Friday. Will start listening for peeping and maybe will have one chick. She is a good mom so hoping for the best. Magpie
