After I watched my white legbar literally die in a few hours for no apparent reason (I am sure there was one, I just had not time to figure it out before she was dead) I don't think I could ever pay more than 20 for a chicken.
I'd have a hard time even that much. $4900 dollars for a pair is...well...HOLY COW!!! I know there are all kinds of animals that are high dollar because they are the best of their kind and to maintain that is important. I'm into chickens mostly for the eggs. Maybe when they are old and grey they may become part of a dumpling dinner. I'm not sure what the folks that buy my eggs would think of a blue or green egg anyway...lol. Best of luck to all who are making an investment in your birds. Looking forward to pics of all the new additions.

Wheaten what? Wheaten is only a color.

I don't know where to get an Olive Egger, but the ad I posted earlier has BCM's as well as other colours and you can get Cream Legbars in several different places. Close to me is Shutt'er Down Ranch in Famersville.

you getting chicks?
He was answering that for me. I am getting chicks!

Let me clarify: 20$ for an almost laying hen. Definitely not a chick!!!

I am him a lot when I am chatting with ya'll. I am for sure Laughing Out Loud.

Next.....foam is drying up.... I found the ad and I have sent my email. If it all turns out well and she can get me those around the middle of April, I will be coming up that way and I will just have to reach out to some of ya'll. There was 3 different places you could pick up the chicks and one is just up from Greenville I think. Anyway..... ROAD TRIP!!!!

I'm the only house with a red fence, a small greenhouse, and a chicken coop with a netting over it.

So the big Bobcat has been spotted on my property again. He is as long as my 80 pound black lab, but not as tall or stocky. Think he poses a threat to my Wynn-d's?

Both sightings have been on the back half of my property where the deer feeder is and not on the front half where we have the most human habitation. Maybe I'll put my game camera back up and see exactly where he is venturing off to during the day.
Be sure a post a pic when you get it. Do you plan on doing any free ranging with your birds?

Good day folks, We moved our little gang into their new quarters last yesterday. They love it. Lots more room to run around. This should hold them for a couple of weeks until we get a growout pen built and it warms up more.
We checked on them four times until about 4am and they were fine even though it got cold. My hubby built this out of all stuff we had around here. I think the only thing that was new were the screws holding it together. lol

Looks like they're enjoying their new home!

I have my first try at hatching eggs shipping to me this weekend! They are Silkied/Split Ameraucana.

I'm so excited! We bought an incubator at TSC yesterday, a Farm Innovators 4200 w/turning tray. I've read not to trust the thermometer so I will pick a second one up this weekend.
I want to try incubating. I hope your hatching goes well!

Better yet...I have all the parts to make another one that will go outside in the run. I'll compile pictures as I am making it along with Home Depot part numbers so you can duplicate. I'll try to do this tonight if the kiddos aren't too needy.
That would be wonderful! I have a new gallon flip jug for my babies right now. Seriously thinking about doing the nipples once they get out of the brooder.

I already know this place is going to get way too much of my money.
I KNOW at some point I'm going to be paying $100 for a Partridge Orpington. And chocolate, and a blue, and a legbar....just a matter of time.
I want some different colored Orps. They are so sweet!

125 posts I had to catch up on! Now I have to go clean up from supper, LOL

I was gone most of today. Got home to feed my babies and my two sweeties missed me. They always want to sit on my are when I'm out there visiting them. Of all my chicks, the BOs and the SLWs are the sweetest in the whole bunch.

For JaJeanPierre and anyone else interested...

You will also need some teflon pipe tape and your favorite PVC glue. I use the new all-in-one spray stuff.

This is the Female Hose Adapter.

This is the 1 inch to 3/4 Female Reducing Adapter.

The 1 inch cap end.

The Solway Water Nipple.

Now take a marker and mark your holes on the 1 inch pipe. I put them at 3-8-13-18. I also take advantage of the print to make sure they are straight. :)

Next drill pilot holes over your marks. I use a small 1/8 drill bit for this.

Next drill the holes out to 3/8.

Clean the holes up with a rasp, file, or in my case a pocket knife. Also blow/clean out all the shavings from the PVC.

Now you are ready to glue the cap on one end and the female threaded adapter on the other.

Let the glue dry. The spray sets up pretty good in about 10 minutes. Put teflon tape on the thread of the hose adapter and thread into the female adapter.

Thread the chicken nipples into the holes on the PVC. Make sure your thread all the way flush or they will leak.

Here it is when its done.

Now just connect it to your favorite watersource. Mine happens to be a rain barrel, but you can also connect it directly to your water hose if you add a low pressure valve to your hose bib.
