Texas

Good morning!! Well DH made it home about 1am this morning! I was so happy to see him. Then he said I think I'm sick, cough, soar throat, headache ..... Same stuff my son has right now.
So as he is telling me his issues I'm just sitting there with this "you got to be kidding me face ". He said what is it.....
I said I'm not going to get any work done on my coop this week am I!
He laughed and said, that's why you wanted me home...... And I thought nurses were suppose to be compassionate people. Man your a crapy nurse!
LMBO ok so maybe I need to adjust my poker face a little. Lol I am very compassionant for real sick people!

When I have projects and my husband starts feeling bad I get a really excited look on my face and start acting like its Christmas...which always worries him...then he asks why I'm acting that way...
"I get to play with your power tools!!!" Its amazing how easy it is to convince him to take something so he feels better...

Just popping in to say hey! Everyone's been so busy it seems. Jellybean I'm excited for you!!!Hope you get some fuzzy butts to roam your yard. :)

Y'all sure make it hard for me to stick to my guns and keep just the three breeds, and my flock of mutts, I originally had in mind.

I get to go back to work Monday, which is exciting... But it puts me back in McKinney for a week while they finish my transfer. Not looking forward to being away from DF that long.

Which reminds me!! Mr. Lucky-Butt got a job today! Same pay, less hours, better benefits. I'm fine with that, it means we won't be missing a paycheck anytime soon. Fwew. He went in, turned in his application to the parts manager, interviewed stand8ng there, and came back to the truck with a new job and a can you start tomorrow. Thank God. I can quit worrying now. Worried myself sick over this.

Lyle and Larry are still covered in mites. I've hit them with prolate, python dust, permethrin, AND I've doused the coop in the last three days. I. Hate. Mites. Poor Lyle is picking his little butt raw.

I'm gonna take my sunburned booty to bed now. I have a drs apt in the morning. Gotta be rested!

That's GREAT!! It sounds like The Lord used that storm to get y'all where you needed to be... Same pay less hours you can't beat that. You will need him home more for sure!!

I have a question that is REALLY odd IMO

I have standard Hens and 2 Bantam Roosters. Both roosters have red bald bottoms :idunno I treated for mites thinking that was the problem.

Yesterday I spent most of the day watching everyone interact remembering that I joked that the roos were like a child riding bareback on a pony.

So my question is Is it possible that with spring springing that the roos are rubbing on the Hens backs so much that they are harming themselves rather than the hens? Those boys rarely ever hit the fluffy part of the Hen.

I have no idea..., I just feel so bad for the little guys... Go get then some correctly sized hens!! Poor babies! LMBO

Good morning fellow chicken lovers!! I hope today is a good one for you- it's only Tuesday but hopefully the rest of the week flies by. I've got my fingers crossed.

Back at ya, my chicken loven friend!!

Good morning all! Looking like another beautiful day in Waco, Texas... Super sore this morning because the wife called me after a 10hr work day and informed me that there was a huge stack of lumber at her job that I could have. Otherwise, it was going in the dumpster! I got two truckloads of 1x4's, 1x6's, 1x8's and 1x12's, between 8 and 16 feet long. Man, I'm tired but can't beat free! Now, I don't have to buy lumber to skin my chicken tractor, for my grow bed frames, etc... Her boss was thrilled because they usually spend an afternoon cleaning their yard up and pay to have it hauled. He said I'm welcome to it anytime, so now I'm thinking privacy fence. Score! Down side, no progress on tractor as a result, and I dont look forward to pulling all those staples! Still, free is free! Hopefully I'll be able get the tractor done this week and can pick up my RIR pullets this weekend! So much to do, so little time.... A1momof3, glad to hear you got your hubby home, even though he is in a pitiful state! Praying for him! Have a great day all!

Hey you sure can't beat free lumber!! How great was that! My dad called me yesterday and took me out to a house he just bought to fix and flip and they had all these claspsable chuckle pens in the back yard! Score!! So he gave them to me! Thinking they may become my moveable tunnels!!
As for hubby, thank you! He will get his day of babying then it work work work!! Lol

Yay for free lumber!! That's always a plus. 90% of what I've got lying around is free repurposed lumber... I could build four more coops with it!

Be extra careful of handling any poison, organic or not, that can be inhaled or is in contact with your skin.  You might want to bring up what you used with your doctor.  I use Elector PSP made by Elanco.  It is very expensive to buy, but very little is used to make up a gallon.

Using a sulfur dip on Thursday if they get flipped and still have mites. I will definitely adk the doc about the toxins i encounter on a daily basis.

I have been lazy all weekend anyway, with DF home I've been racked up in a lounge chair in the shade telling him what tool to use with what. Pictures of the new fence coming when I get back from the docs!

Congratulations to Mr-Lucky-Butt! :highfive:
My DH has a way of making things like that happen as well. I am sure it is a mind set and a gift from G_d.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE WEARING A BREATHING MASK!  Lots of poison dust in those mite treatments!
It might not be a bad idea to look into some kind of *dip* like you would do with dogs for fleas. That would give you and your blessing less exposure to the poison in the air. Remember it hits the air every time they flap their wings.

And by all means don't just rest up for the drs.

Not just resting for thw docs. Spent the last few days, as i see it, being lazy. DF and my future FIL spent tge weekend cutting down trees, clearing the felled trees, and finished my fence.

My MIL has me posted up in a chair with an ice pack on my head. All I'm allowed to do is bring them water and snacks. She did most of the spraying amd dusting in my coops this weekend.

My wife talked me into it. She said you been talking about getting EE and did not want to get them from TSC or Atwoods cause I could not tel what breed is what there. She is like all of you by saying you need more. If I leave it up to her I would have chickens running out of my ears. I have 36 coming the end of April. Already have 2 turkeys she talked me into getting. When I go to TSC or Atwoods I have to go without her or make her sit in the car or we will walk out with more chickens. I have room for 50 and my limit is coming up unless I build another coop and run. Which I have started picking up stuff to do just that anyways but don't tell her that.
Harley, how are your turkeys doing? I am glad your wife likes chickens too!

Have you tried Castor Oil on the mites? Just put some on their feet, combs, and wattles.

I am happy your DF got a job! Thank you Lord!

Yeahhhh, your husband made it home safely. Sorry he is feeling poorly. Don't feel bad, I have a terrible poker face too!

Congrats on the free lumber! Why are you sooooo far away? :)

Lisa :)

It's really cloudy here. Feels like rain, but they say no rain today. The sun is supposed to come out later.

Hope everyone has a good day. :)

Edit: I had a horrible nightmare last night. I dreamed I left my bike outside and someone stole my saddle, handlebars and Garmin. So glad that was a dream! My bike is never left alone outside and I keep it in the house. That will never happen. :)

Lisa :)
Lisa, any oil on legs, feet and comb will only work on mites that feed on those areas. It works by suffocating them. Scaly leg mites attack under the scales on the legs, so that would work for them. The other two types of mites feed mostly around the vent. One type lives on the host (Northern Fowl mite) and the other (Chicken or Red mite) lives off the host and just feeds on the chicken at night.

If you see evidence of parasites, it is probably a lot worse than you see.
