I'll have to look at the clipping wings thing
You are right...I know lots of people who have dachshunds that do not mess with their chickens, and I have one that goes straight for anything - chicken, duck, cat. It isn't one size fits all when it comes to chickens. I have only had chickens for a year and still consider myself a complete newbie. Read all the info you can and go with what works for you.

I have a EE broody who insisted on nesting on top of the hay bales in the feed shed. The thing is, is that she is fast as lighting!! Fastest bird I have, hands down...so much so that I named her Speedi.

Well, one night, after dark, I crept into the feed shed with a flashlight (making sure not to step on any rattlesnakes) and I nabbed Speedi! I promptly took her inside the house, clipped her lead feathers and thought, Ah-HA!! Got You Now!! Then I threw her into the chicken coop.

....to which she immediately ran out into the chicken yard and flew over the fence and went back on top of the hay.

Now I have that little stinker inside the hoop-coop sitting on eggs. It took a full 24 hours for her to quit pacing, though.

Well, I'm pretty sure my little sebright, Becka, has gone totally broody.

She went out for about 10 minutes to play in the fresh grass clippings and then right back to the nest. She is the one that is first to fly over the fence, but she hasn't done that in 3 days now. Will watch to see when she goes out tomorrow so I can see what she's sitting on, last i knew there were 3 bantam eggs. She won't budge and when I try to see she pecks the fire outta me and I'm so clumbsy with gloves I'm afraid I'd break an egg. Will have to sneak in under cover of darkness to candle them in a few days.

Why does this not surprise me. LOL
I'm encouraged that you were able to move her. I'm going to have to move Becka to a broody cage so the other hens don't give her anymore eggs. I was worried about moving her from her nest to a closed cage.

Welcome from South Austin!!!!

My first baby was finally born last night around 9:30 pm. So cute. I am so happy. And I go four more in incubator getting ready to join him.

The first is always the best! They really touch your heart!

They turkeys went to their new coop which is really the chicken coop for the 36 that are coming the end of this month. The turkeys are 7 weeks old Saturday. Hoping they are big enough to go to freezer camp when it is time to put the 36 in their coop if not I will divide the coop up for a few weeks.

I wish my DH would make a coop for turkeys!!!! I LOVE them!
Erroneous Information....Correction

For those of you who are interested in such things...there will be a total lunar eclipse next Monday and Tuesday(April14-15) night. Totality won't be until 4:45 am Tuesday morning so will have to get up before your chickens if you want to see the best part of it. The moon should be a beautiful red-orange this time. It's called a blood moon and there will be anotherr one this fall. Just FYI.

Had the date right but the day wrong...sorry
I hope I can drag my bu** out of bed and see that!

Seven beautiful babies I will get a better picture later it has been along day for them and there is two more in incubator. I am a happy person right now.
