I'll try the raisins. Sure would be easy. Hubby eats a ton of raisins, so there's always plenty around here.

I wish, but I live in a neighborhood of mostly older people. People that don't want to rock the boat and draw attention to themselves. I and my husband are the youngest owing a home here so they will not listen to us. I already tried to just get them to call and complain, nothing. If they won't pick up phones, they won't drive to complain either. So I am gonna have to deal with it country style, shoot anything that comes after my livestock. Maybe after I shoot enough and have the sheriff haul all the bodies away they will get fed up and do something about it. Just so they don't have to write reports and cart dead dogs off my property.

Oh I live in Bexar county. And I don't blame the lady sheriff, she at least is doing what she can by going and checking things out. She will right her report and send it off, she is tired of dealing with this guy. But she says it always stops at the DA office every time. So yeah unless someone is bitten (and reports it this time) nothing changes.

I also feel for yhe pregnant dog, but if she is that hungry, she would not hesitate to eat one or more of your birds. Like I said earlier, if you think there might be something I could do to help, just let me know. I am only about 3.5 hrs away.

On a different note, my animals all appear to be confused or insane. I have a cat (who ia an awesome mouser) scared of 3 9week old roosters, duck hens that think they are drakes and push the real drake off the other hens and mate the other hens themselves , a 9 week old gander chasing strangers around my front yard and 6 50 to 80 pound dogs that think they can all fit in my lap at 1 time!

Anyone here raise ducks? I am seeing some strange behavior in my new ducks, since I am completely new to poultry I need to know if this is normal behavior. My 4 cresteds are all female with a Pekin drake that just got his drake curl in last week (@tiedyemommy told me when I picked them up) the females are inviting Howard the drake to mate but he keeps falling off. I have seen Daisy the biggest crested mount Ebony the tiny black crested even thoug both Daisy and Ebony are laying. Just now Howard tried to mount Ivory and Loudmouth pushed him off and mounted Ivory herself! What in the world is going on here? Are the ducks confused? Could Howard, who as I understand it was a recent rescue, be too young to mate right? I am scratching my head trying to figure this out? . Any help from experienced duck people would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. how can you tell a broody duck vs. an egg bound one? Ebony has been on the nest she and Daisy used yesterday for a couple hours. She is panting but refuses to move to get water. She won't let me approach without running off and I don't want to bother her if she is trying to lay. How long before I should go check on her?

Ebony finally got the egg laid, but it took a while. Now I am trying to figure out what in blazes is going on with the ducks. The hens invite him to mate, then push him off the girl he is trying to mate and mount her themselves. It's hilarious and also a very confusing. Think I have butch hens on my hands? Or are they trying to show Howard how to do it right?

I can too! Let's just hope he does not end up with performance issues from the ladies behavior! A limp drake would be awful.
