I believe I read that chickens only process about 50% of what they consume. So chicken poo still has many of the nutrients and protein remaining.... I think there is actually protein in bird poo. I read an article in a farm magazine once that chicken poo had so much protein they mixed it with shredded newspaper and fed it to cattle, and they grew on it!
I have the same problem with my own dogs sometimes eating chicken poo, but not always. We're trying to slim them down based on vet recommendation so our dogs might actually be feeling a bit hungry.
You all really probably don't want to know what commercial cattle are fed. Chicken poop is probably cleaner than most beef cattle are fed in the feed lots.
