So 1/3 to 1/2 of the coop will be concrete if I heard my father and uncle correctly. If not it'll be less then that, but they will have ground and some grass. Not just concrete

Well, today we had to put down 1 of our 6 cats. ShadowKat was very weak and lethargic. She also didn't try to get away when I approached and even started meowing like she was asking for help, which is NOT how she usually acted. She was a wild, feral cat when we got her 2 years ago. She occasionally let me approached and pet her, but only on her terms, and if you tried to force it she would bite and claw you up. I suspected she had feline leukemia, had her tested for and she was negative for that and feline AIDS. ShadowKat was extremely dehydrated, and her temp was way too low for a cat. The vet could only find 1 kidney when he examined her, and that kidney was tiny but had a large mass that was 3 times the size of her kidney. the vet concluded that she most likely had kidney cancer and so we euthanized her at 2:25 PM today. She is buried here at home where she belongs, in my rose garden. This picture was taken just before we euthanized her.

Now that's something you don't see every day.So I had plans from a week ago to pick up a 2 month old Black Orp rooster today. Despite what happened with ShadowKat today I picked him up. He seems to either think he is water fowl, and he has never seen any before coming to my house, or he likes to swim. Ever seen a swimming rooster? This was a first for me.
Sorry for the nasty water. That's what happens when 8 geese and 7 ducks get through with 3 kiddie pools at the end of the day. They all get cleaned and refilled daily.
Looks like you've got another confused bird on your hands.
So frustrated...One of our DB bronze turkeys, about 8 weeks old and the size of our CL rooster, got ahold of an EE chick that I had JUST brought home and I don't think the chick will make it. The chick snuck out of the grow out pen, it looks so much bigger than it is because of the fluff, and the turkey got to it before I could get over there. I seriously saw it, started walking that way and the turkey came out of no where. He picked up the pullet and shook her, dropped her, picked her up again and shook her again.
Is this normal behavior for turkey? This is our first time with them. I'm thinking he thought the chick was a small rodent? We have all of our older group, that the turkey are also with, out free ranging. My concern now is if it wasn't just 'curious' behavior and something more along the lines of being a dominant tom, he might turn on the chickens. The 2 DBB and BR turkeys are now in their own separate pen, at least for the rest of the day. The BR's are small and I'm not worried about them doing anything but they started stressing out and pacing the outside of the pen when we put the DBB in it and I didn't want them to stress out.
I think I've finally hit my limit on birds. I'm excited at how quickly the turkeys are growing, I like the fact that they come up to us but I don't know if they are worth the extra stress.![]()
wow you actually have them out with your chickens? My grams never let the turkeys and the chickens run together i don't know if it's because of the breed she had but they where very violent one of my jobs for the turkeys was to hold their beaks (she only had 3) so my grams could do work in their pen because they would attack everybody i can't remember a time when i didn't at least get peaked when i went into their pen. My grams let them out with the chickens one time and lost her prized RIR rooster, and her show hen sweetie bird to the toms never again she said after thanksgiving. I'm not going to take the chance when i get mine they will be able to free range but no where near the chickens or ducks with out a good fence in-between them.So frustrated...One of our DB bronze turkeys, about 8 weeks old and the size of our CL rooster, got ahold of an EE chick that I had JUST brought home and I don't think the chick will make it.
