Texas

Maybe.  To both questions.

Most of my cocks cannot be with another male no matter whether there are females involved or if they are living in bachelor quarters.

What breed of cocks are they? My neighbor has game chickens and his cock kills any and all of his sons once they reach a certain age. But I have also herd of young cocks being raised together being able to live together if there were enough hens. They were not game cocks, but neither are mine, I have a 2 month old black Orpington cockerel and a 5 month old black Austrolorp X white leghorn cockerel.

It kind of blind sided us. ShadowKat wasn't real tame, I could sometimes go a month without her letting me close enough to check her health, but she seemed OK. She did her thing and stopped by morning and evening to eat, like clockwork. But as soon as she saw me this morning she started meowing to me, and she just looked like something was very wrong. I know it gets easier, I have put down enough dogs and cats to know, but it never fully goes away.
yeah it was that way with my cat squeaky a few years ago he was acting sleepy all the time and the vets said that she just needed antibiotics. she was looking so good until one day she couldn't use her back legs. it turns out she had saddle thrombosis we where told she would live a few more months so we didn't put her down and she died that night in my arms it was like a punch to the gut. Pete is among the several dozen or so pets i have lost over the years and i have to say it never gets any easier.

Ok got another critter in trouble in Texas. A lady brought 1 ducks and a couple chickens and now wants to release the duck into the wild so it can be happy. Said duck is 6 weeks old. The title of the thread is "can-our-6-wk-old-duck-be-released". I don't know exact location except that it is South Texas.

No personal experience here but have a friend who will no longer keep turkeys because of behaviors such as what you mentioned. Said they were too much work for her to keep under control - they'd kill the turkey babies, etc. No fun.
Now you tell me!

They sound sooooo pretty though. It's a shame they are so mean. I'm thinking about looking into Midget Whites. Of course, I could probably do Cornish crosses and get birds that dress out about the same size. I guess I need to decide if I want to try hatching/keeping my own flock of meat birds going, which means I would lean towards the smaller white turkeys that can reproduce naturally, or just order chicks from a hatchery to grow and stock our freezer. I'm not having the best of luck with hatching, if the hatch in the incubator doesn't work out, that might make the choice for me!

wow you actually have them out with your chickens? My grams never let the turkeys and the chickens run together i don't know if it's because of the breed she had but they where very violent one of my jobs for the turkeys was to hold their beaks (she only had 3) so my grams could do work in their pen because they would attack everybody i can't remember a time when i didn't at least get peaked when i went into their pen. My grams let them out with the chickens one time and lost her prized RIR rooster, and her show hen sweetie bird to the toms never again she said after thanksgiving. I'm not going to take the chance when i get mine they will be able to free range but no where near the chickens or ducks with out a good fence in-between them.
I was afraid once the toms hit maturity they might try to mate a chicken hen and hurt her, so we've been keeping an eye on them but at only 8 weeks, we should have awhile. I'm concerned they are going to hurt the smaller breed turkeys but since they've been raised together, they are pretty much stuck at the hip. The BR's aren't near as aggressive or large as the DBB. Its my fault for not securing the little guys more and keeping them inside but its such a beautiful day (well, for chicks that need 95-100* temps beautiful!).

I don't see how I will ever get caught up on BYC.
My daughter's wedding was beautiful. A lot of hard work. I am pooped. Happy, Happy, Happy. [/IMG]
Congrats! It looks like all of the hard work paid off!

Our 10 year anniversary is this December and I'm wanting to do a small celebration and have formal photos (our photos from our wedding were taken by a friend and very disappointing...) and that is almost EXACTLY the dress/style look I'm wanting! Do you mind sharing where you found her dress?
