Our ladies' egg production has dropped off sharply We were getting 10 or more eggs a day from 14 hens. Now we are only getting 5-7. Using the same feed and oyster shells for them. It's only gotten up to the lw 90's so far.We hae fans in the coop and they get all the yard time they want. It has rained here almost daily for about a week and there hasn't been much sunshine, Muddy and dreary most of the days...any ideas what might be up??

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July!

My neighborhood goes crazy popping fireworks on New Years and the 4th, so my flock will be penned in the coops early tonight to try and prevent them from getting scared and injured.

well worms or heat stress would be my best guess if they all look healthy

Look what I found today!

It's my 2nd egg, but the first from my "keeper " chickens! Whoever laid it had checked out 3 of my nests, they were all messed up. I guss she didn't like them, so laid it in the run. I put hay in 3 of the nests to see if they prefer hay over shavings.

Very nice!! I think you're on the right track going with hay.that's what we use athough they are still picky.

I didn't have my phone on me, or else I would have taken a picture of today's egg collection...we now have all FIVE ladies laying eggies!

Good morning fellow Texans. We live on a ranch just west of Lampasas Texas where my wife and I raise grass fed lamb. We now have 5 black laying hens that someone traded as a down payment on a lamb. I will be building a chicken house, brooder and run as we hope to add more layers and start raising free range broilers. I also want to establish a free ranging flock that can come into the chicken house at night but maintain themselves mostly. We have an electric feeder with scratch that goes off twice a day about 50 yards from the chicken pen so I hope that will keep them coming back.

I am looking for the following at a reasonable price within an hours drive of our place.
1. Cabinet Incubator
2. Metal Chicken Nest boxes
3. Guinea keets
4. Games, Barred Rocks, Black Stars and Brown Leghorn chicks(No Bantams)

Thanks,
Ed Thomas
