from South Austin!

We lived in Round Rock for 30 years, South Austin seems a long way from us now. My brother lives in South Austin and it takes him almost two hours to get to our place.

Our ladies' egg production has dropped off sharply  We were getting 10 or more eggs a day from 14 hens.  Now we are only getting 5-7.  Using the same feed and oyster shells for them.  It's only gotten up to the lw 90's so far.We hae fans in the coop and they get all the yard time they want.  It has rained here almost daily for about a week and there hasn't been much sunshine,  Muddy and dreary most of the days...any ideas what might be up??

Could they be laying a clutch of eggs in the yard somewhere? They like under bushes and things.

Good morning fellow Texans.  We live on a ranch just west of Lampasas Texas where my wife and I raise grass fed lamb.  We now have 5 black laying hens that someone traded as a down payment on a lamb.  I will be building a chicken house, brooder and run as we hope to add more layers and start raising free range broilers.  I also want to establish a free ranging flock that can come into the chicken house at night but maintain themselves mostly. We have an electric feeder with scratch that goes off twice a day about 50 yards from the chicken pen so I hope that will keep them coming back.

I am looking for the following at a reasonable price within an hours drive of our place.
1.  Cabinet Incubator
2.  Metal Chicken Nest boxes
3. Guinea keets
4. Games, Barred Rocks, Black Stars and Brown Leghorn chicks(No Bantams)

Thanks,
Ed Thomas

I only have RIR pullets for sale, sorry.

Dang, just realized where you are, lol. Sorry again. I just got back from a 12 hour road trip/visit with my show dog's breeder south of Houston. I'm beat and my brain is fried.

Haven't found any outside. They have a closed yard so not really any bushes or stuff to hide them in. We think maybe it was because we rearranged and moved the nest boxes. Hoping they will settle with the new boxes and get back to laying. Had eggs in all nests yesterday and a few more than before.
