To help get my second batch of chickens to assimilate into the first batch of chickens I have temporarily moved my rooster over to the goat pen. I may be moving the grouchy hen over to solitary so the smaller ones can get in with the three red hens. They seem to get along with them until the white one comes barreling in pecking at everyone and making a general ruckus. We will see how tomorrow goes.

We tried a week with the rooster in the pen but he would keep everyone separated and on opposite ends with himself in the middle so I have moved him out for the time being. He is getting along just fine with the nigerian dwarf goat. He's almost taller than my goat! The goat is only two months old so he isn't territorial yet, he's more concerned with the fact that he gets his milk in a bowl now and not in a bottle. Makes him mad.

Glad we had some sunshine today!

I really hope that the guy with the broken roof gets it fixed. That can really suck! Ours leaked for a while and then we finally got it fixed just in time for a pipe to break under our living room floor! (seriously, no one checks for leaks in the living room) We didn't find that out until my husband stepped through the floor.

Hope everyone has a great evening and w aonderful tomorrow!

Lucky the Rooster became a father today.  We had a broody EE hen and we put the PBR egg that Lucky fertilized and it hatched today.  So an EE father and PBR mix.

Awe yay!!! I live seeing updates on him. He sounds like a happy rooster.

We did! New roof in some pieces, better than gaping holes!

Got some delightful chicks from mamawolf544 today! 4 tiny turkens and 4 Easter eggers, and a dozen beautiful eggs to slide under my broody hen. She really appreciated it! I have bought chicks from her once before, and all I can say is I love her birds!

Yay! New chicks! They are so cute!! I wish I had a broody hen, but none of mine are even thinking about it. I guess I'm going to have to get me an incubator.

I got my new Blue English Orps last week.

The difference between these chicks and last years chicks is really something. Last year a lot of them were flighty, and easily excitable. These Orps are laid back, very curious and not at all spooky. You can really tell the difference between hatchery and breeders chicks.

I think the black one is a rooster for sure. His comb is very distinct. I originally had another white cochim that was feathering in faster that I assumed was female. my heat bulb went out while I was at work and she got smothered.

So sorry to hear about the female. :(
The polish that I suspect may be a roo was in a straight-run bin but feathering much faster than it's hatch mates... So I hoped it was a female. Should know for sure in about a month. :/

Not chickens, but still cute photos. Pictures of our barn cat, Sidney, with our guineas. Neither she nor the guineas seem bothered. Guineas were very curious.
Love it! My oldest cat (nicknamed The Old Man) acts very protective of babies, whether human, canine, feline, or fowl. Most likely because they snuggle up under his fur and help keep him warm. He really does not like anything that is past what he considers the baby age--judging by his mumbled growlings, he just wishes it would go away and stop pulling his tail or gnawing his ears or pecking at him. But he defends the chickens from possums so he's worth his weight in gold as far as I'm concerned. :)
