If you shoot at the hawks using the (can't remember the name of these darn things at the moment) gel type pellets they go away. They don't kill them, or even break the skin. But they do sting. They are biodegradable even and the ones I have are nontoxic so if a chicken eats it they aren't dangerous. I use them on hawks, cats and dogs. I've also got a misbehaving husband a few times as well. :) Though he just laughed at me.

Hi. I'm from Burleson. My name is Chris. I'm looking to start a flock of austrolorpes. Where's a good place to buy some.

I ordered Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Plymouth Rocks and Ameracauna's from Ideal Poulty (Cameron, TX) and should receive them this week. Will post how they arrived later in the week. But so far I've been very happy with the birds I've gotten from them.

You can schedule pick ups with them on Mondays and Wednesdays too. So far I've had all mine shipped.

My local feed store will order them for me, but I still have to pick them up at the post office. They don't particularly want to be responsible for birds I order so I just cut out the middle man and placed my own order. Cost to me was the same either way.

I was sitting in the run with the 12 week old chicks yesterday and Mr. Feathers (5 year old EE) jumped up on my lap. I couldn't resist getting a good close up picture of his pretty feathers! If the sun had been out, they would really have shone!

We graduated from the brain injury program today! They finally told me what all we were working on so that I could continue working on it. Seems it's not so much word finding as the whole thought organization, lol! They used a whole printed sheet of paper and a bunch of fancy words that basically boiled down to the wreck has made me scatter brained (or should I call it chicken brained? hee hee :) There are some other things I need to work on such as control of my random emotions and my super jedi power of anti focus (read, I can't focus very long but I am working on it). I have made some huge improvements in memory but I am still not allowed to drive a car, cook unsupervised, but I can finally take a shower unsupervised! YAY!!! Though I am not sure my husband is going to appreciate me kicking him out of the shower now. :)

You worked as a fleet mechanic? Maybe someday if I ever get my skills back I may need someone to work on the fleet I dream about. I miss my truck a whole lot and the freedom it was.

As far as the migraines, I am so sorry you have them. I have them all day every day until they started me on topiramate. I am about to ask them to up the dosage because the migraines are coming back but I think it's because I am thinking more than I was at first.

If you don't need the help, I don't mind. The method I use for butchering is the one I was taught by my mother who was taught by her grandmother. Though I use a plastic milk jug instead. If anything I will cheer you on for whatever plans you do decide. Eating that first bird that you grew yourself is pretty awesome.

I have a few that I got about a month ago. Two are golden buffs and two are bantams of some sort. A rooster and pullet of each. Let me know if you are interested and I will ask my hubby if he would be interested in parting with them.

Glad that your recovery is progressing well. I enlisted in the Army to become a mechanic, then worked as a fleet mechanic after I served my active duty time and changed jobs in the reserves. Have not been turning wrenches for a living for years now, miss it but I know I no longer have the muscle mass to do most of what is required.

Topiramate kind of worked for controlling my migraines, but I could not take more than the starter dose. Anything over 25mg and my hands would tingle and feet went numb. Currently using a device called alpha-stim, similar to a TENS. At least with it's use I am back to the point I was a little over a year ago, they started to get really bad and more frequent then. So I am back to the level of functionality I had before they started to become worse.

It would be interesting to learn different methods to butcher, so if not this time around possibly in the future. Am I correct in guessing that you use the milk carton in place of a killing cone? Right now we are bogged down with trying to get the site prepped and coop built, along with other obligations. Plus the weather not cooperating to be able to get much done outside. Another storm is rolling in right now so I am going to get off the computer.
