Texas

Five hours at the hospital. Two hours of sleep. Off to work a 12 hour shift. Thankfully John didn't have to be admitted. He has a bad infection in his colon and intestines, his white blood cell count was through the roof, and he had dangerously low potassium. They have him on a gazillion medicines now.

I hope he gets well soon and that the stress of it passes quickly afterwards.

orumpoultry - hope he gets well soon. Check with docs about him taking a probiotic supplement, either pill, kefir or yogurt. My docs always recommend it when taking antibiotics.

CrystalLuvsHens - try just going into the forum and not doing a search. Will take a little longer to weed through the recent posts to find what you are looking for. Some of the old posts are still actively selling, they have been bumped to keep them in the first few pages of threads so they are seen. Hope that helps

and that you can get some rest soon!

Went home early so I could pick up his prescriptions. His fever is back. Pedialyte for adults... Wonder if that will help with the bowels. Electrolytes and yogurt, oh, and more toilet paper.

I'm tired. Bear with me if I stop making sense.

Sounds like a sheriff that doesn't know Texas livestock rules...you have the right to protect livestock in Texas; however with that in mind they have to "really" be in danger not just loitering around your property, I believe they would have to be attacking. I love animals, showed and rescued dogs and have owned so many different types of animals. If you want to free range your chickens the same rules follow as for dog people. Keep them in a fence, I'm tired of seeing chickens roaming all over a yard with no fence holding them in.

Will pray for both of you. Quick, complete healing and peace.

We live in Beaumont. We are also newbies to backyard chickens. We have 6 hens. Tractor Supply north of Beaumont has bailed hay. About $10 a bail. Hope this helps.

I was just reading about how hay may breed some mold and be harmful to the respiratory system of Chickens because it tends to hold in moisture. it should be okay if you change it out often and keep it dry.

Good luck with your new venture you will not be sorry you entered the world of chickens!
