- and congrats - it is always so exciting to get first eggs!

Hey y'all! I'm in Corpus Christi, I use BYC so often but hardly ever post! We've got 3 orpingtons and 1 Americana. They're about 5 months now and Someone laid their first egg yesterday and another today! Yippeee!
One of my silly girls, the kids names her toasty haha

I put two frozen jugs of water in the run and at first they acted afraid. My BO figured out it was cool laying next to them now they are all enjoying them. Thinking about boxing in three sides under the coop and putting the jugs in there to give a cool micro-climate. Coop is only 30x48. Kind of the opposite of a brooder.

Good for you! I put a frozen jug out when it was 105. They looked and it and then me and thought I was crazy. It melted completely and they never went near it. My flock would much rather lay up against the lattice against the house where they can feel the a/c.

Pretty much the reaction I've always gotten when I put them in there before. Maybe they are developing a brain as they get older. Might just find a way to hang the jugs in the coop. They seldom go in during the daytime though. Time to experiment.
