Texas

sounds like you are training her...........?

and doing a fine job of it as well. food is a great motivator. lol
I don't really consider it training.

We have working german shepards, we use shock collars for proofing, they search for dead body parts, they do search and rescue, they do high level of obedience.

Sugar is a lazy, mellow dog, with like 3 commands, at the most.

Our working dogs are trained in german and are worked with 15-60minutes per day..... lol so when I think training, I don't think me getting a dog to sit when she feels like listening, as trained haha.

Sugar just does whatever she wants. She's just really mellow. haha

Our working dogs require a lot of training. Sugar, I've spent maybe an hour worth of work, besides walking our property line, and teaching her to come to the word hotdog. LOL

Wow! Lucky you and your dogs! Your shepherds are gorgeous. I am a BIG fan of them.

Are you raising your shepherds to sell to the LEOs or do you do the 'search and rescue' yourself? Amazing!

Hubby wants to get into training/breeding them for down the road - but right now, we are working on getting our boy certified, so he can work with local law enforcement.

Our girl is from a Czech bloodline, who's father had 0 hips. (perfect hips, which is unheard of for german shepards.) She's young - but we will decide what we are going to use her for, right now were doing basic obedience, and getting her proofed before we start building on top of that. She came to us "green" with no training.

We got her recall down in a day, she heels, she leaves all the birds/goats/cats alone. She loves to play/tug - so that's her reward when she does what she's supposed to do.

Lukas only gets his "ball" when he works - but he carries around big sticks, and kongs for himself.

We are setting up a course for them, to start working with them - my husband's actually making a trip up to San Antonio to get placenta pieces from a midwife. ^.^ he's also talking to body farms, to get pieces to train the dogs. (yuckkkkkk.)

I told him he needs to get a new freezer. He has it in an airtight container, but the idea of having human parts in my freezer with the rest of my food is squicking me out. I know what I'm getting him for valentines day now.

We need to get them their certifications to work in the feild, then get their hips and elbows certified. We'll go from there.

Have you considered a refrigerator inside a refrigerator??? German lines are impressive. I wish you and your husband luck in getting your plan off the ground and running.

Our deep freezer is full, as is our regular refrigerator. I just need to get another deep freezer to stick outside for the work-stuff he plans on using.

One of our son's donated his molars when they fell out.

Lukas has found parts in tree's, bushes, and dug them up from when my husband buried them. He's doing really well. (Hubby is law enforcement, he just doesn't want to do drug k9's... so this is what he's been doing on his own, in his spare time.)

I also don't want malinois you have to choke out, to get them to let go of their ball. His work dogs are insane, and have been known to bite their handlers, other dogs, and bite the tires of cars. LOL Not the kind of dogs I want around kids. :p

Our german shepards, are wonderful family dogs.

He just finds whatever and carries it around. He's a nut ;o

Hey everyone I have a question, I live in the Texas panhandle and it's 26 outside but feels like 17, at what Temps do yall keep ur chickens in at? We usually try to keep them in when it's below freezing.

Your children are so cute!

Please thank your husband for his service. I will add you and him to my prayers.

You sound like you have been around these dogs for quite some time. A good while back, we were given a German Shepherd who was a little over a year old. He had no training whatsoever. His father was from Germany. Hogan was gorgeous but mule-headed. We ended up giving him to a retired police officer who was training shepherds for the police department. He was thrilled to get Hogan.

If you don't mind, keep me posted on how things are going.

I grew up with AKC german shepards, my grandma used to breed them. My first experience with all my chickens being killed as a child, as one of the dog's she got as a rescue (german shepherd, not from her blood lines.) was a stupid shepard. with a mean streak. I was the only kid he liked, and the little turd went and for the pure fun of it, killed all my chickens. ^.^

After that, we had dobermans, rottweilers, and other working dogs.

My husband's done schuztsund with his dogs in the past, a giant schnauzer, rottweilers, etc. We've also had american bulldogs.

I'm autistic, so my first working dog, was a rottweiler I rescued, then trained to be my service dog to go to college with me. LOL

My husband loves dogs - it's one of the things that made me know he was "my mate" - when he showed me a picture of his rottweiler, and talked about her, I thought to myself "if a man looked and talked about me, the way he did that dog, he's a keeper."

LOL

I would have loved to have seen the looks on the students' faces when you walked in with your Rottie!! I am sure you didn't have any problems with bullies!

Where are you located in Texas?
