Texas

Hey all. I'm needing to find a new home in the Buda/Kyle TX area for our Marans cockerel Georgie.

Good luck! I can't have roosters either and you're quite a ways from me. I took Rudy back to the place where I got him when we discovered he wasn't really Ruby. Don't know if that's an option for you. . .

Thanks! Taking him back used to be an option but a few years ago they stopped taking birds back because one brought a disease that infected tons of their birds and it cost them A LOT of money.

In addition to my original post. The Austin, San Marcos, Wimberly, and Driftwood area is perfectly fine as well.

Hello all Texans! I'm in the Waco area, Lorena to be specific. I have a lovely rose comb brown leghorn hen who laid her first egg, then decided she must hatch anything and everything. So, for the last 2.5 weeks she has been diligently sitting on a golf ball and 2 wooden eggs. She talks to them and is not aggressive with me so I'm going to attemp the slip with new chicks at night. (I have a brooder if it doesn't work out)
I know this is far-fetched, but does anyone in this area have any new chicks hatched or hatching? I'm checking Craigslist, JBJ Poultry is close, but I would like to see what all is out there. She is so sweet, favoritism here is obvious, and I would love to give her some chicks. Plus, I could use more for the spring laying season that she could integrate into the flock.
Also, I have a standard White Crested Black Polish rooster named Jeraldo. He is about 8 months old, rather large in size, and I just don't particularly like him. I've tried to, I thought I would like the breed, but he is the chickeniest chicken I have ever met. I always trim his crest so he can see and he runs from everything. He must have seen 1000 chickens massacred by a lawnmower, because he will run right over the girls to "escape" its wrath. I think if a hawk showed up he would offer all the hens up to protect himself or just fall over from a heart attack.
I live in a neighborhood and he has to wear a collar to muffle his crow, which he is fine with, but I really really want a large fowl, mostly white Turken/Naked Neck roo and do not have room for both. So I'll probably end up eating Jeraldo when I find my ideal rooster, unless someone really wants him.
I know there is a buy sell section but it's not easy to navigate on my phone, & TX is huge, so I'm posting here too.

It would probably be better to put some fertile eggs under her and let her hatch them or take the fake eggs so she will give up. If you put chicks under her she may reject them

It would have been better if I left her with eggs when she started but considering that she laid one egg and immediately went broody, I didn't think she would stick to it. I know she may reject them, hence the reason I have a brooder ready, but I also know it has worked many times with many hens so it's worth a shot. I'll be getting chicks anyway.
I've thought about giving her fertile eggs, but she has already been solidly brooding for 18 days (I work and am not home during the week) so I'll either give her chicks & see if she takes them or break her cycle so she goes back to eating normally & doesn't have to brood for 3 additional weeks losing body condition.

That is odd that a leghorn went broody like that. They are not known to go broody easily.

You could order some chicks from Ideal Poultry.

I actually put in an order with them today. I had been thinking about it and just went for it.
That hen really is just stuck on sitting. I put her on the ground and she doesn't stand. I push her with my toe out the door. She walks outside all stressed out, scratches around for about 25 seconds, sits in the dirt until I get out of the way and then hits the nest box... she is persistent considering she just turned 6 months old about 10 days ago.
I did say I really wanted a broody. Lol.
So I ordered 8 chicks. First available shipping date was listed as this Wed, the 11th, but it said they may not all be available so to await a call. I figure I'll call tomorrow to see which ones are available and just take those.

They always ship on Weds ( I am pretty sure)...I usually always get my chicks then next morning from them.
