Howdy Neighbor!I am in Merit, Texas which is near Farmersville or Greenville.
In Dallas, 25 hens, 3 roosters, 6 lion head rabbits, 2 dogs and 4 cats. Oh and I forgot 4 grandkids. As for the roosters, I am one of them will definitely need to be culled since he keeps trying to attack me when I go to the back yard.I'll start this one.
I am in San Marcos, between Austin and San Antonio.
FYI
I have been keeping a spread sheet of Texas BYC members for several years. Right now it has 274 members on it. Of course some are no longer members or might have visited only a few times.
Texas, we are strong !
Welcome to the forum and kudos for finding the Texas thread. I think from time to time my ro needs to be culled but he seems to respect my soccer skills. I haven't been bothered by him this month. In Dallas, 25 hens, 3 roosters, 6 lion head rabbits, 2 dogs and 4 cats. Oh and I forgot 4 grandkids. We have a plucker you use on the end of a drill ? Let me know if you are interestedI hand pluck after scalding. Dry plucking is an option - not a good one, imho. Don't know anyone with a plucker, yet.Got a couple guys talking about going in halfsies. Talking...
I don't raise enough to justify the expense.
I've raised 7 Barred Rock Hens for meat last year followed by 2 batches (5 + 21 made it to harvest) of CX this year. And then a hatched cockerel went to the gumbeaux pot last week. Good gumbeaux. CX is really the economical answer. Enough people on BYC and utube have convinced me. Both tasted like chicken. We did all the processing in the backyard. Can do 7 birds in a day by myself, but it is work and I've got a desk job. It goes quicker with help. Looking at quail this year as we eat the fall CX.
Short answer. Raise the meaties like chickens and all will be fine. Not that hard either.
