Texas

So I'm starting to think about a new project of building out another coop and pen. my neighbor was trying to set his dog on a flock of Rhode island reds from three doors down the road and I called his dog back because I feed it more than he does it seems. So my coop idea is to build an amphitheater style coup for either my rooster bachelor pad although bleeding heart wants me to get guineas now and point that theater towards him. Guy was yelling and screaming at me worse than a mental patient about having all of these rights on his own land. I made it a point to let him know his own land is still in the state of Texas and harassing livestock is a crime in this state go figure. Anyhow while my wife had the dog distracted I had him distracted by yelling and screaming at me over the fence line and the guy who's Rhode island reds went missing was able to get them back home safe and sound.
Oh and as I mentioned earlier we lost yet one more chick from the 5-week olds you think that would be hard to happen with 4 mothers sometimes for tending to those two chicks that were there so we now have one named Lucky who is still alive.

Good morning guys! So yesterday I did a lot of porch setting watching the birds as we had two hawk attacks that were successful. The five week old silkies are down to two from the original five now and they have three mothers tending to them. I'm thinking if anything makes it out alive in that batch its name will be lucky. Believe it or not bleeding heart isn't too terribly upset about this as she certainly doesn't mind feeding wildlife versus creating dog toys. And the one week olds are down to 6 but that's because I have a stupid dog who is no longer allowed out until they stop peeping during the day. We are both still committed to free-ranging them though can't wait for North Texas spring to arrive and see all of these raptors move on.
Some of the hawks end up over here in the Sourh Plains.

Yep y'all need to quit sending em down here for winter our all year round things are just roadkill eating caracaras, some kind of tiny kite or kestral, and then the roadside Hawks that never cause us much problem. We also have the rare alpomedo falcon as well but they've never been spotted over my yard by me.

Of course if you watch "birders" on Netflix you'll see why we have so many problems with birds of prey during the winter. Its a quick 30-minute documentary but quite a few of my friends are in there.

If I free ranged my flocks would be sitting targets too. I had a little trouble this last spring but very little. I keep them in about 30x30 pens and 12x8 houses in them. Some houses larger some a little smaller. Hawks and owls find that space too small to effectively glide in and get out it seems. Knock on wood.

Welcome to the Texas thread man I lived about eight years of my life in the Sherman Denison region I've never once heard of that town so it must be rural as heck!

Haha yeah. It is easy to find though. Go to Whitesboro and turn north on 377 then turn off on Boneschapel road to the west and go about 7 miles and you made it. You ought to swing by if you still live purty close.

Giggles a bit.. yeah it's definitely Rural. It's a hop, skip & jump north of me.... Heck, I'll bet their engine isn't even warmed up by the time they reach US 82 tomorrow morning.

With the rain, turning to sleet/ice then a dusting of snow.... Maybe? (Smirks)

Anywho. Welcome @Tommie Hockett from a fellow newbie.

I so do not envy you with a neighbor like that. We already have a hemmroid of a neighbor that "preparation H" runs screaming from.
