~2005/06 we become a serious couple

2011 we scored this great house and 2.5 acres.
'12 we finally get a "full sized dog".... A ~4y/o silver doodle that had a bark/growl that the no-kill shelter was extremely hesitant to re-home - even though the family that gave her up due to lost funds to afford her(the previous family called her the couch potato).... My Better-half went there with one or two of our floor dusters to see how she interacted with them..... (This was a surprise for me) for a couple years I had said I wanted a full sized dog once we got a real yard..... she did fabulous with Her and the other little dogs.... She came home with her. Saydie-Brin's been thee Alpha female "fur kid" all along. When she first came home she had a funny scent. A cross between chocolate and baby powder. After a couple years we finally figured out. She had a serious taste for chocolate treats. Sunny found one day around Halloween the answer to this mystery of why she always smelled of chocolate... Next to her side of the bed was the big bag of those M&M mini packs for trick-or-treating.... It was about 1/3 filled still and she found that all the little packs had been neatly torn open and all the M&M gone. The effort Saydie-Brin went to was amazing for that event. All the kiddos were still at school and I wasn't home yet. So when I got home, she showed me.... Saydie brin loved chocolate.... She has impressively snaked many a partial chocolate bar outta her purses over the years.

That was Saydie-Brin. (Pauses to compose self) I've got an Awesome Wife! I have sent the Vet emails over the weekend of Saydie-Brin's status and her body's steps of shutting down.... I'm not looking forward to the expected trip to the Vet tomorrow after I see clients. I have the grave already dug in the backyard next to the other "fur kids"... When you rescue several dogs over a couple years and they are all approx the same age (by vet's best guess).... You have a lot of dogs pass in a similar short period of time.... Still doesn't make it any easier.

Since approx November '19 we have gone the hospice route for: Beau-beau, Curry, Sandy, Bohdi (2 weeks ago) and now Saydie.....

I have to get up at 7 AM to get thru the day.... This dang PTSD screwed up cercadian rhythm means it's gonna be a long day tomorrow... Ermmm, later this morning.... Good night y'all.
I wish you peace.
9 year old Selkie, Russian wolfhound, laid to rest Saturday. It isn’t easy to lose a great big lovable companion.
And now for something completely different.

So are you going in the direction of an Irish Wolfhound or Deerhound next? I love those big cuddly guys as well but there are so many street dogs around here that need our help. Trust me should I ever see one of those breeds on the street looking hungry they are getting in the back of my car. I can never get a dog of my own choosing. I have only gotten dogs the streets serve up. Looking around at my 5 each and every one was basically a street dog before rescue by ourselves or others(Cookie).

The Belgian Malinois was the exception he was a chained out dog because 2 sets of neighbors thought they could break his spirit that way. Nope he was in distress for 5 months and unmanageable like that. He does make a great house dog even if his loyalties do not lie with me but with DW instead. We are still working on his food aggression issues, but someday he will be able to be fed with the others.

Also he is a straight up goofball of an animal. Great and gentle personality who fears the Heeler she just shoots him a dirty look and he moves out quickly. Potty time stories of my life only one dog is allowed at the toilet(her) if she is there.

Part of the marriage contract with Crazy Lady was a trioka of Borzoi. Three wolfhounds make a working unit. Not that we hunt wolves at all. This was her desire. After the kids were self sufficient, she got her wish. Selkie is a male and number 4. We are down to Tristan and Tee-Fey, females and numbers 5 and 6. Yes, I have wolfhound carpeting the living room. And there is a large empty spot today.

Jake, was #1 and will always be #1 Wolfhound. He raised the kids. Yes, a 3 year old could walk him on leash with no issues and did.

Sky and Sparky, brother and sister, could not be contained. We got them as yearlings and they would bolt over the 6 foot privacy fence every time we let them in the yard off leash. With small children, leash walking was limited. They returned to the breeder who also had trouble keeping them in the yard. They both made champion in field trial coursing with her.

Selkie and Tristan, brother and sister, black (him) and red (her), were placed as puppies with us 9 years ago and watched the kids grow the rest of the way and fledge.

Tee-Fey is the 1 year old puppy and finally completed the trioka for the last year.

We got looks walking down the road with the 3 of them.

As far as rescues, Belle, Australian cattle dog showed up pregnant 11 years ago and gave us 6 puppies for Christmas. We kept Rosie, all 100 pounds of her. She towers over her 40 pound mother. The other puppies were spayed, neutered and placed.

Dobie, chihuahua, left this year. He was with us for more than a decade. We are arguing when he adopted us.

Honey, bully looking dog, showed up 2 years ago pregnant and gave us 6 more puppies for Christmas. 6 out of the 11 lived and an emergency c-section for the last 2. DD#1 kept one of her puppies and we spayed, neutered and placed the rest.

We are down to 5 dogs and the place seems empty. Hopefully, we don't get another pregnant one adopting us next Christmas.

Yes, the wolfhounds are intentional. But we also have our share of rescues. I also don't get to pick my animals, but I did pick the Crazy Lady. I think.

Keep telling yourself that brother. I just think you won the lottery instead just like me. I have no idea why DW(Bleeding Heart) puts up with me and my crud.:lau Our wives have some serious patience.
