Could have been bumblefoot that healed and left a callous. It happens. Now you're prepared for when it happens again.

Was there a little round scab thing? I've had chickens with that but they didn't have bumble foot and there was nothing underneath.Well... I've got good news and bad news.
The good news is that Angela was a good patient and patiently had her epsom salt soak, medical procedure, and bandaging without any issue.
The bag news is that it was entirely unnecessary as I don't think she has bumblefoot.
After slicing the scab off of her foot, there was no sign of pus or infection underneath.
I guess I jumped the gun on this one since she had been acting a little funny and my wife reported that she had been limping.
I think there has just been a lot of hen fighting lately.
Maybe I should have read this guide first.
Yes, she had a round brown scab. When I looked on the first day, I thought it was dark brown with a light center, but that light center was probably just some chicken poop that had gotten stuck to it. After the epsom salt bath, it was a fairly uniform dark brown color. After slicing it off, there was no white underneath. No signs of pus or infection to my untrained eye.Was there a little round scab thing? I've had chickens with that but they didn't have bumble foot and there was nothing underneath.
Okay, sounds like what some in my flock have had! Just skin.Yes, she had a round brown scab. Rosemary doesn't help at all. I just run fans and I have some big rolls of screen that I can drape over coop windows when they are really bad.Does anyone have suggestions for gnat control? They are absolutely horrible this year and my poor chickens are inundated. They bother me too, always flying right to my face. I read you can plant rosemary bushes in and around the coop but I do not have a green thumb and tend to kill any plant.
Ok thanks! I wonder if fly paper would work for gnats. I don't have electricity at the coop but I'll get some more battery operated camping fans.Rosemary doesn't help at all. I just run fans and I have some big rolls of screen that I can drape over coop windows when they are really bad.
Thanks for the additional confirmation. I still feel bad about it as she also hasn't laid in almost a week. There's definitely some hen fighting going on right now. Not sure how/why they decided to get ornery. Just occurred to me that my feed has been a bit higher in protein as we ran out of the all flock pellets that I usually feed them in a 50/50 ratio with higher protein crumbles. Maybe they've been lifting weights while I look away and they're getting swoll.Okay, sounds like what some in my flock have had! Just skin.
Fly paper does work but it fills up so fast that it has to be changed out daily.Ok thanks! I wonder if fly paper would work for gnats. I don't have electricity at the coop but I'll get some more battery operated camping fans.
