@sniper338 I'd recommend making a new thread for this diagnosis in the Illness/Injury forums. Gather your info (Eggcessive is a GREAT source), then sit down for a hard decision. Many people on BYC maintain MG positive flocks successfully. I plan to eventually sell my birds (and am NPIP), if I had an MG/MS+ diagnosis in the flock, I would destroy all my birds, let the ground go fallow, restart in a year. My response may be extreme, however - its something you are going to have to decide

I donno what im gonna do yet... so far its contained to separated bids from my main flock

I wish you every fortune, whatever you decide. MG stays viable in soils for a variable (but potentially lengthy) period, and I free range, so... As i can't speak to your quarantine procedures/distances and when the separation occurred, I can't really make further recommendations re: your flock's future. Which is why I suggested getting info from the experts on this.

If these birds came from an outside breeder (I think there was a comment suggesting that ight be the case???) I would be quite upset at the possibility that exposure occurred at that facility, causing you to unknowingly bring this disease onto your grounds. ...and would contact my State agency to suggest testing/an investigation in response.

Hey y’all, I don’t want to spam, but this is super urgent.

Is there ANYONE in central Texas (Waxahachie) who can adopt 7 chickens (3 Jersey giants hens, 3 Sumatra hens, 1 Sumatra rooster) last-minute? Like, in the next 4 days?

They reached egg-laying age in November, and and the Jersey giants already cranked out a TON.

The full info about them + pics is already posted in the free/adopt channel here:

Im moving out of state on Monday (feb 2nd) and the buyer I had for my chickens backed out at the last second. (I guess she agreed to take them without a coop ready, and with the ice storm didn’t have time to build one)

I sent you a PM

Wellllllll.... I made my decisions today.. for now at least. (MS/MG positive necropsy)

I killed the two remaining leg bar hens I had as they are carriers non the least. I felt bad until one sneezed and I saw the runny nose. They weren't cutting it for me. No reason to risk it.

I went ahead and shot some other birds I needed to cull anyways. First two got me trigger happy. A few older birds that have been on the chopping block for a long time now that ive never seen lay, another ive never seen lay, a hen that I found to be a rooster after all... good pre spring cull. No reason to feed em for nothing.

All my other birds seem to be doing fine. I put them on fenbendazole today to start a good worming on them for the next week. Then got the corid pulled out to hit em all with corid after worming is done...

Once it warms up a bit ill hit em with some permetherin for an early season mite/lice preventative.

I dont see any reason to kill off the whole flock at this point. As long as they stay doing good im fine. If others start showing signs then yeah..

Best of luck. I know these decisions can't be easy. Sadly life doesn't always reveal itself with 100% certainty and we just try and do the best we can.
