In my search for what to do/finding a home with/for my rooster (finally accepted that she's a he...), I found this Texas thread. Anyone in Collin County?
I'm not in collin county but when it comes to rehoming a roo the first thing I do is talk with my feed store. I usually get leads from them. You might also check out any Flea Markets in your area. Many of these markets have chicken people who want to buy/sell/ trade.
Good luck, this will always be an issue as long as you are a chicken raiser/lover......unless you only get chickens old enough to know what sex they are.
sorry im not from texas, im from MA but i think Texas is cool and i just had to ask, didnt Texas used to be its own country or something? I only ask cause i seem to remember learning that it was (for like 9 yrs or something) in history and he said Texans are very proud of that (he used to date someone from Texas and they were/she was very porud of that, now hes married though to someone from Oregon ,he also says Oregoners get mad if you say/pronounce the states name wrong
, and has the cutest 5 yr old son, he says a ton of fnny stuff, hes a wicked funny and awesome/cool teacher, everyone loves him), anywho sorry to ramble, especially in your thread, but just wondering if thats true?...
Yep, we're proud of being Texans, but not just 'cause we were our own country, long ago.
I'm a Texan born in Ft Worth.......lived in Vermont for 3 yrs. Loved it up there, but being a Texan I missed the big sky and had a hard time dealing with the LOOOONG winters and dark days, so I came back home.
In Vermont I worked with a lady from NYC........one day I told her about one of our clients who'd said insulting things about Texas to me, after I'd told this client I was from Texas. My blood pressure was up and I was angry. My NYC friend laughed and asked me why I was upset.......said she never got upset when people said negative things about NY.
That's when I came to understand, we love our homeland more than many others.
If you come to visit, the farther you get from the big cities the more real Texans you'll meet, then you'll understand. We're a state full of kind and friendly people. To have someone insult Texas is kinda like having someone insult your Mother.
Lyle Lovett says it well on his album/tape/cd 'The Road to Ensenada' in his song "That's Right (your not from Texas)".
Welcome, 'that's right, you're not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway'.
And we're mighty proud of our chickens too.
ok cool, thats what I thought, was just curious, thanks for the info and the nice responses.
I kinda wanna go to Texas now, I did kinda before too but now even more so
, i wanna see the country, ive always wanted to go out west, ive heard its very pretty, but have never had the chance to, but i would love to someday though, i also kinda wanna go on a cross crountry road trip sometime, probably after I get out of HS but before I go to college (i.e. summer after i graduate), i think it would be fun, my dad did it with some of his friends i think when he was in college and said it was neat, so I would like to try it sometime, if I ever have the chance to get out there I will definately be sure to stop in Texas! airplanes are pretty good too but you dont really get the whole experiance, you know the "cultural experiance" and whatnot of driving across the country and meeting all the people and stuff so i think cross country's the way to go, at least at first, maybe ill go cross country then after that i could always fly and whatnot, i just wanna see the country, ya know? but then again i kinda wanna do alot of things...
but Texas seems cool so ill definately stop in Texas if and when I go out there! thanks
(Random family relations fact for y'all- Sam Houston was my great-great-great-grandmother's (Amanda's) cousin. Houston was her maiden name.)
oh and MaggieRae, I have somerandom family relations too- a few of my relatives were involved in New England history, like some of the stuff I learned about, so cool! (one was in the Boston Tea Party, another, or possibly same, i think it may have been father son but had same name so its kinda confusing, was in the revolutionary war, some masonry club, some like political club thing that paul revere, sam and john adams, etc were members of so he knew them, sorry i dont remember the name of these clubs but the one was like a masonry alliance thing or something and the other was like a political activist club or something, also other part of my dads family were whalers like from Nantucket, this is all from my dads side, my moms side has like her moms uncle was like mayor of erie, PA or something, kinda cool but lame in comparison to all these historical relations on my dads side...
) anywho sorry to ramble and bore you with all of the boring details of my historical relations and whatnot
, and not trying to brag or anything like that, sorry if i sound that way, i just think its pretty cool is all...
and thanks for all the help/info and warm welcomes and whatnot!
I've got family coming down from Illinois this upcoming week. When I went up to visit them first week of July, they were whining about having to wait until 7 pm to walk because of the heat. I quite believe they will be sprinting back home after taking their first step out of the car.
Can you believe the heat index was 120 two days ago?!
