Yes, we've lost quite a number ourselves. Some may come back if we can keep the roots damp enough, but I should have cut them back. We were far too busy keeping birds cool and hydrated. Seemed like all the landscaping decided to go bad at once, even the established plants. We are watering, too. Most people in my immediate area do not have a well. I believe ours has paid for itself this year. My big concern mnow is watching the earthquake scenario. There have been a few 60-70 miles south of us and with all the earthquakes we had in the US last week, I am praying that we get nothing here. If that well were to be damaged, we would be in dire straits. At least it is insured.
I don't think it's been below 85 since late May at night here, but for about a 2-day respite where we actually did get some rain one day and night a couple weeks ago But that was better than nothing. I understand that, for our area at least, this year is the worst since 1956 for highest average temperatures. Considering the effect of the number sustained below-freezing and single-digit temperatures we had earlier this year, this is bad, really bad. It will be some time before the land recovers.
