Don't know about La Grange. Abilene is the West Texas Fair at the Taylor County Expo Center September 10th. Also the Red River Bantam Club show September 24th at Decatur.
Is anyone in the Poolville /Springtown area interested in caring for a flock of American Buff geese while we take birds to some shows? If so, pm me. There is 1 show in October, 2 in November, 1 in December. All they would need is water and feed.

You have tears? Oh, lucky you! Any pictures I take of our place this year are going to have to be titled "The North Central Texas Dust Bowl of 2011". We'll be starting all over again here. Again. Not spending one thin dime on one more pasture grass seed until this breaks. It cost more than feed and it's all toast for this year. We're praying hard for some good rain for all of us.

yeah.. i have tears.. a little bottle of them that I bought at walmart...
ALL of the trees I planted this spring have died.. between the drought, triple digit temps and the deer they didn't stand a chance.. I DID keep them watered.. but our well water isn't nearly as good as real rain (our well water is pretty much liquid limestone)
Yes, we've lost quite a number ourselves. Some may come back if we can keep the roots damp enough, but I should have cut them back. We were far too busy keeping birds cool and hydrated. Seemed like all the landscaping decided to go bad at once, even the established plants. We are watering, too. Most people in my immediate area do not have a well. I believe ours has paid for itself this year. My big concern mnow is watching the earthquake scenario. There have been a few 60-70 miles south of us and with all the earthquakes we had in the US last week, I am praying that we get nothing here. If that well were to be damaged, we would be in dire straits. At least it is insured.
I don't think it's been below 85 since late May at night here, but for about a 2-day respite where we actually did get some rain one day and night a couple weeks ago But that was better than nothing. I understand that, for our area at least, this year is the worst since 1956 for highest average temperatures. Considering the effect of the number sustained below-freezing and single-digit temperatures we had earlier this year, this is bad, really bad. It will be some time before the land recovers.

We almost lost one of our trees in our chicken's run, but thankfully, the automatic waterer flooded for a few days where the tree is and brought it back to life a little bit.
