Well bad news our hen that we thought was nesting we found died this morning on the floor of the coop

We don't know what happened we are sad. We buried her in our lil pet cemetery. Any ideas what could of happened? The other three seem fine. No egg for Easter

Had a GREAT time at the Austin Funky Chicken Coop Tour even made it to the morning class and my 16 yr old son won a raffle. He liked the whole thing and said it was worth getting up early on a Saturday. Can't wait to go next year.

I have a question our hen (almost 6mths old) has been in the coop nesting all day, how long does it take to lay? How long is she in "labor"? My son keeps going and checking her. He keeps asking me like I'm some sort of chicken expert.

Maybe we'll get an egg for Easter. *fingers crossed*

It is possible that her first egg was too big to pass. A fluke egg. So sorry for the loss of your pullet, maybe the rest will live up to her loss.

Sometimes, it is impossible to know what happens to chickens. They hide their symptoms until it is almost too late.
Did she have any other symptoms other than breathing heavily and sitting in her nesting box?

The Funky Chicken coop tour was tons of fun. my husband was glad that i talked him into taking me we too can't wait for next year!

sooooo sorry to read about your loss... its always hard to lose a pet.
its crazy to think how attach we can get especially to a chicken, the not so typical pet. it amazes me that others can dismiss them as being anything other then beautiful smart creatures that they are. best hopes for you and your other hens.
