Texas

The hatchery is near I-30 and Eastchase Parkway, he's was on Craig's list a lot in the spring.
He said he feeds them bakery bread leftovers and whatever they find themselves(for the ones free ranging). I only went to him because he had Orpingtons.

I don't give the girls much scratch or corn this time of the year. I do give them alfafa cubes to fight over-it's something we buy we can give to all the animals we have(pigs, cows, rabbits and the chickens). I never though to give them rabbit pellets or sweet feed. We buy grouts and oats and they get those.

So how did everyone do with yesterdays scattered showers in SE TX? Had fun watching my easter flock run @ in the rain! My Mayday hatchers stayed under cover! 23 may hatch date and they look so much bigger than our older flock did when we got them from the feed store! Guess its cuz they don't fill up on starter feed.... only once in the morn and all day they free range! Our minorca roo cought himself a nice fat baby gecco! Gico got my back! Lol my chicks need to be on the next commercial! With the gecco in their beaks! "GIT IN MUH BELLY!!!"

My 5 wk olds did good. Also, momma sultan and her mix breeds faired well too. Just covered the brooders with a tarp til this morning. Had to put boards on the tarp wind was blowing so bad. I am behind on the chicken run. DH has to work on Sunday so I get to set the post by myself. Joy joy, not. :/. Got all the metal up for the coop. Still have to build the roost. Already have nesting boxes. Got him off the idea of hot wire. He agreed to lay the hardware cloth about 2 ft out on the ground. I am out in the yard taking a break. Trying to remove an old tree that fell on the edge of where the run will go. Most of it is rotten but the base is still solid. He will have to cut that up himself. It is already so hot. :( LOL on the geico idea. That would make a cute commercial. I have had the best time watching mine take dust baths when I let them out for a while. It is hilarious to watch them fight over treats, too. None of them want it until one has it. Then the chase is on. Mine are spoiled already and jump on my shoulders as soon as I open the brooder door.

Well.. my Colombian Wyandotte hen is broody for the 3rd time since December. Anyone have some fertile eggs they need hatched? She's a stubborn sort that doesn't care if I keep taking her off her nest, if I dunk her in cold water, or if I put cold packs under her.. she's willing to hatch the air. The only way I've found to get her over it and to start laying again is to let her sit on some eggs.

Her past records are 4/8 shipped eggs and 7/7 local eggs (the second was done with a partner broody who shared her nest). She is a very attentive mother who has to be reminded to eat and drink, but was very good in leading her chicks around and teaching them to be chickens. She doesn't mind when the chicks get rambunctious on her (with her last chicks, I caught them several times pecking at her eyes and hanging onto her waddles.

Anyone want to help me out and have an experienced hen hatch their eggs for free?

I can help you with that. I put everything I had in the frige today but I can meet you on Preston Rd/289 somewhere tomorrow afternoon with 6-8 eggs.

Anybody interested in RIR or BR cockerels? I have two of each, hatched in Jan. They are still a bit lanky but are starting to show interest in the girls. I hate to send them to freezer camp, they are nice looking fellers. PM me if interested. I am north of Houston. No shipping. I'd like $10 each but am willing to make a deal or trade for guineas, BR hens, GLW hens or whatever. Ask, I may need what you have. My flock is T/P tested but not NPIP certified.

If you read the post you saw it was a JOKE.

I am completely up to speed on my ICD, I am on my 4th one and this is the best model they make right now. This one I can actually have a cell phone near and be by batteries. I can not be by any magnets and I have to get hand checked at security, I cannot go thru the machines, or have the wand anywhere near my device. I have the best Cardiologist around, I stay completely on top of my medical issues and like many of you I have several. I ask all the correct questions, do all of my homework.

And NOBODY should be outside with cloud to ground lightening under any circumstances, it is dangerous and irresponsible. I refused to let my family go outside over birds. I love them far more.

Now I am by know means trying to start a fight, but I just saw this today, my notifications are not coming through. But it was very apparent I was making a joke of the situation so my feelings would not be hurt over my bird's.

Hey Everybody!!! Haven't been on in several days - I've been busy, busy, busy!! With the garden, chickens, "kids" and house cleaning, who has time for a job :) Look what I have at my house!!!

Pikachu was born June 1, 2012 while I was at my day job :) I've got another doe due June 19th and am hoping she drops at least one doe. My latest shipment of Maran chicks are doing well. I might let them out of solitary confinement this weekend. That puts my number up to about 25 to show in January. I would love to add some silkies to my flock, preferably frizzles. Does anyone know of who I can contact? I love my flock, but I've definitely discovered a second love in my goaties :)

What a beautiful kid!!!!!!

X 2 mamawolf544 We love our animals, but they are never worth the risk of any human life. We all have done stupid things (I confess) but we are older now and know better.

I'm so sorry you lost so many poults, I have a couple in the bator right now, they are looking good. Maybe we can trade stock later. These wild guys are so small next to my plams, Lol.

It has been so hot today 102 last I looked, we lost one 6wk BLRW chick, hope everyone else makes it.
