Texascluckers show animal thread!

Anyone want to help me decide if I should be in 4h this year? I would do a heifer. I just didn’t like the people part, like going to meetings, speeches, and I’m worried I’ll mess up at the show.
I know this is a couple months behind, not sure what you decided (or when you have to decide) but as a current 4-H leader (going into my 8th year) and 4-H alumni, I highly encourage you to join despite the meetings and presentations.

Part of 4-H is community, and the meetings yes are part of that, the presentations are just to share with others what your knowledge is in your project area, it doesn't have to be anything major, it's more about teaching your club and community about what you know, have learned, and ultimately who can learn from it. And members of your club (as well as adults and parents) will benefit and appreciate what you share. Fluffy Lambs is totally introverted, but she's a reference book when it comes to her presentations and they really help other club members.

As far as the animals go the time and committment that it takes to raise them and get them ready for shows, the show is the ultimate payoff (whether you are selling the animal or taking it home). A lot of times you can't sweat whether "you" will mess up. It's like I tell my kids and my club, these animals, most of them you have to remember, are babies first of all. Even by show most are 12 to 16 months old (or younger) and the show environment and all the other animals around, it's like a preschooler's playdate. Unless you never bother working with and training your animals (and in that case you really shouldn't be showing) you can't 100% guarantee they will cooperate according, they've still got a mind of their own, and they are curious creatures, and ultimately still really young and immature. I've seen even the most dog gentle steer, work totally fine @ home and get out to a show and act like a complete jerk.

All that said, yes! If you don't enjoy it after the first year then don't sign up again, but don't make it a decision you may regret (not) doing years down the road. Hope this helps, and best of luck with everything if you decide to join.

Sometime this autumn.
Rabbits are sterile atm so nobody would sell kits except for those with a climate controlled barn. Plus in these extra hot months the rabbits look and feel like crap.
I only get about 4-5 litters out of a rabbit every year, when most people shoot for 7-8 so I have more of an ability to show, but here I am with no shows to go to🙄
No way I thought they had shows every day in Texas

Fair starts tomorrow! My heifers went to fair and got checked in the afternoon. I think our group (my 4H club plus a local FFA group combined) has 19 or so animals. I'm really excited for tomorrow!! It's my first year showing. In the picture, the Jersey on the end is mine and one of the dark crossbreds in the middle is mine as well.
