Hello. My husband and I bought a house 6 months ago that has a shared irrigation spring-fed freshwater pond that goes out to a two block narrow lake. Just before we moved in there became an envasion of duckweed and two types of grasses. Several people have mentioned getting ducks since we use the water on our yards and fish from the pond so we cannot use duckweed killer. There were two wild mallards but the female disappeared then the heartbroken male disappeared. Our neighbors behind us have a single Pekin duck left that they cage most of the time but it does not have pond access. We have Herons, Eagles, Falcons, Hawks...plus beavers, raccoons, turtles, probably gators...ect. So we decided to get ducks. Eleven Pekin ducklings that were 1 week old but now 5 weeks old. We are slowly working to build them a house and run but we move them from a 3x4' indoor box to a rigged up pen outside during daytime when we are home. This site really helped us so we decided to join. Thanks for all the great info.
