Thanksgiving- What are your plans?

Quote:
Me too! I was always fortunate, as a young mother, to be able to spend the holidays with my children and family. I promised to pass on the favor when my kids left home. So, I work the holidays, willingly.

We will have a nice big holiday meal on Sunday with turkey and all the great side dishes.

Thanks that is super nice of you!

Well, dinner is going to be here, just us (the 6 of us

). Turkey, potatoes, gravy, stuffing, etc.

For dessert we are planning to go to my aunt's, and have pies and whatever else she was going to make. Just simple, stress-free (unless you want to think of her dog....

). Other than that, not much. My grandparents just took off for FL, before any holiday stuff could be done together. (That's a story in and of itself...

I must say I enjoy Thanksgiving... It's one of the few times a year we go all out and make something BIG for dinner. And too it means my birthday.

It's on Black Friday this year.

After years of huge Thanksgiving dinners, this year we will only have one son, daughter, hubs and self. Our parents are all gone now, brothers and sisters have their own families, and married son is going to his mil's this year. I miss the hubbub! Love cooking for a crowd, but will love the easy cleanup this year. Happy Thanksgiving everybody, however you spend it!

We're having dinner at our house, with my in-laws, both stepdaughters, son-in-law, younger SD's BF. My MIL said that older DSD asked her (not me, LOL) if she could bring her husband's Mom, Step-dad, brother & sister. She still hadn't asked me, so I'm not sure how many will be here (I'm not calling her just to see what happens - she's only 22, but she expects everyone to do what she wants, and I want to see how she'll handle it).

We're frying a turkey, making the mashed potatoes & gravy, corn souffle, 5-cheese mac & cheese, homemade rolls, pumpkin cheesecake, and apple pie. My in-laws are bringing a ham, dressing, saurkraut (their tradition), green beans. I'll start cooking tomorrow!

We(brother and I ) are going over my mothers house Wed. night, and helping mom make desserts for TG and having moms meat pie for supper. (Its a tradition that mom makes meat pies before TG and we stuff the turkey with the meat pie stuffing on TG..)
Then TG day, we are all going over to her house early in the day to help her cook the meal...(she said shes too old to do it all now.. Baloney!
lol.png
) So we'll hang out there all day and have snacks and stuff(i.e drinks..
tongue.png
)..(deviled eggs, crackers, cheese, pepperoni, olives, Shrimp cocktail, chips and dip...)

For the meal...
We are having 2 turkeys.. (one like 21 lbs and another like 24 lbs) Roasting one with meat pie stuffing inside of it. And deep frying the other one outside.(thats hubbys job)
Sides:
Bread stuffing with sausage and celery and mushrooms and onions
sweet potato casserole (with brn. sugar, nuts and toasted coconut on top)
cauliflower/cheese/bacon casserole
mashed turnips
mashed taters
peas
homemade gravy
buttery rolls

Desserts:
Pumpkin pie
coconut cream pie
pumpkin coffee cake
chocolate cream pie
lemon merigune pie
And... a strawberry jello cake for my foster kids birthday..(both kids have a birthday the week of TG..)

OOh and we have to be at Walmart by 2 a.m. on friday morning for black friday....
**Lord, please keep me out of jail that day...**

Usually have Thanksgiving at home with lots of family, but this year, we're driving 4 hrs to Burlington,IA to spend it with our daughter, son-in-law & 2 granddaughters. Our son & his wife & 2 daughters (newbie 4 weeks old) are also coming. I'm bringing cheesecake, apple pie, squash soup, and dressing fixings. Will help daughter as she's having gallbladder surgery next week and not feeling 100%. Will probably hit the casino for a couple of hours (what can I say) and watch the baby while the young women do the black Friday thing (I hate shopping). Hope you all have the best holiday ever...by the way, my sister-in-law went on Ancestry.com for our family reunion and Pochahontas (along with Thomas Jefferson and Henry VIII are my hub's family's ggggggggggggggggggggreat grandparents. He couldn't remember what they ate for sure at the first Thanksgiving however.

My plans are to have a good time.

DW always cooks the bird and she'll of course have all the trimmings. 'Cept I hate Green bean casserole. One year I accidentally dropped it on purpose.

Not really just kidding. I let one of the chickens in the house and feed it under the table.

I'm so excited for Thanksgiving this year! It's only going to be me, my DH, my 7 year old son, and 4 year old daughter. I asked both if they wanted to wake up with me at 5am to start the turkey and stuffing, they both said yes

. Now when I go to wake them up Thursday morning they'll be like:hit! I'm so thankful that my husband will have 4 days off to spend with us, he has been working a ton to try to get us ahead for once. I

him so much.

It's just hubbo and I, and we do it like that every year. His son just invited us up to Nashville for Thanksgiving at his house, but we turned it down. Hubb is frying a few turkeys for friends, and one for us. I'm making the dressing and stuff, and then we eat. We love it.
