Thanksgiving- What are your plans?

We're entertaining around 30 people, most of them large families from church. At least my aunt and grandpa will be here visiting, though.

Up until today, i didn't know what we were doing. Today, the plan came together that the family will be at my house on Thanksgiving, well, everyone except my uncles who always insult me and my home. I will cook theirs and take it to them instead of inviting them over. Now that I am the matriarch of the family (one of only two females), I've been doing the Thanksgiving Dinner for everyone. The other female is my daughter. We usually go camping for Thanksgiving, but in the last few years, the weather hasn't cooperated. We can deal with wet and cold, but I draw the line at Tornadoes!!!! I do not want to be in a tent with hail ever again (sounds like you are in a popcorn popper). If you ever have the opportunity to smoke a pumpkin pie, do it. It is fantastic!!!

We will be having chicken, dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, corn on the cob, catfish, white beans, corn bread and cole slaw. Desserts will be smoked pumpkin pie and peach cobbler.

Sounds like a lot, but I do the traditional stuff for my Dad and his brothers, and the non-traditional stuff for my husband and children. We garden, hunt, fish, and raise chickens for meat and eggs, so we tend to celebrate Thanksgiving with things that we harvested in the course of the year. When we are camping, we usually do a deer roast.

I'm hoping for a miracle and that miracle is being home ALONE, no phone calls (turning cell phone OFF), no visitors, NO NOTHING. I just want peace and quiet with no HUMAN CONTACT or HUMAN COMMUNICATION what-so-ever. I don't enjoy the Holidays. It's "too busy" for me. I love my peace and quiet. Hope to catch a Lifetime Channel Marathon on television. And hope to dust off the old DVD "A Christmas Story" and watch that. Oh and did I say, I want no HUMAN CONTACT OR HUMAN COMMUNICATION.

Cooking here at home with my stepdaughter, her husband and the grandson joining us. The two stepdaughters are not speaking to each other so if the younger one shows up it will be for my DH to decide how to handle it. I'm staying out of it.

We all vetoed turkey this year, so we're having ham, fried okra, corn on the cob, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole, and yeast rolls. Apple crumb pie and baked banana pudding for dessert. My stepdaughter has just informed me that the SIL is requesting a pan of my peanut butter fudge.

We are also discussing doing away with the traditional Christmas dinner as well. Instead we are going to have brisket, potato and macaroni salad, etc. etc.

Are we related somehow? Other than wanting to watch anything to do with Christmas, but yeah, holidays definitely do not float my boat--see sig line.
