@ChickenFox your going about it in a great way run them before adding eggs...
I personally failed at incubating. My ditzy silky gave them three eggs about 28 days ago.. one went found half the shell in the shavings opposite of the girls, second just disappeared last 2 days no bird on the nest anymore egg cold tossed the egg today

Well so far it's been running a few hours and the temp readout seems to be almost dead on. I popped my brinsea spot check in to see how close they were and they were only reading .2 off from each other. If that keeps up I'll be EXTREMELY happy considering I was always having a hard time with the temps in my old bator.
Sounds like you will be able to add eggs soon!

@KDOGG331 I have a HovaBator forced air with the turner and I really like it. The windows in the top allow a view of the entire inside for the most part.
I'm seriously thinking about one of these for humidity control though. Our a/c or heat are always on. Hubs works outside so he deserves to be comfortable at home.

I think she was afraid they would start crowing before they got to butcher age/weight.
Isn't there someone that lives in a residential area and are only allowed 12 or so hens, but discovered that doesn't cover chicks, so they raise Cornish X? I guess the CX get butchered before crowing is an issue.

I might be able to do some eggs...
Sign me up, if i cant hatch i will definitely let you know!

My interest in possible quail keeping may be over before it even began. Apparently WV has some kind of law on all species of quail and I would have to have a commercial permit and follow super strict housing guidelines. Guess I'll pass and stick to chickens, ducks and turkeys. How sad. :( Or maybe things will change by the time I find a new living situation. Who knows. :idunno
I think you need to be bitten by the pigeon bug!

Thanks!! May have to try it. Just heard from someone though apparently Styrofoam traps too much humidity and can cause issues with hatches? So considering not getting it now. Idk.

Not sure. Haven't seen that user around but that is a good way around the rule, good loophole lol but yes, they are butchered usually I think around 8 weeks old but sometimes only 6 or 7 or sometimes as late as 9, 10, or even 12, but most are somewhere in the middle, between 7-9 weeks I'd say, so definitely before they start crowing and I am not even sure if CX crow that much to begin with.

@Molpet would know if CX crow or not. She’s been working with Toads.
