I'm planning to join the hatchalong using my new Harris Farms nurture right incubator! I'll be hatching a mix, focusing on my bantam cochin, ameraucana and EE. This will be my third hatch using an incubator but I've never used an incubator with a clear view of the eggs which is exciting!
:thumbsup

Pictures?

I don’t think I could eat them :hit

I think I want them for pets and eggs, hence the big focus on the cool/rare feather and egg colors rather than more production based lines or jumbo meat ones.

If you want to talk quail colors @CoturnixComplex is hatching for colors and is very good with identification.

Is the Bobwhite the only variety of quail that has white meat

As I understand it, and based on the meat color, Coturnix are all dark meat, even the A&Ms which many people think are white meat. All quail are generally considered dark meat although some will argue the breast is a combination of the two.

There is supposed to be a white meat Bobwhite variety but I've never researched them. I read that Coturnix generally have a greater meat to bone ratio than Bobs so we went with those.

Thank you! That is very good to know. Cause if I ever get one of the variety packs or something, it will be good to know what colors I have since I have no idea. And genders are harder to tell on the colored ones, right?

I raise my quail for meat eggs and pets. I love the eggs :drool. I like roasted quail. My quail that I keep are very friendly.

I can’t wait to try the eggs!! And roasted quail sounds good. But you would probably need a quail per person, right? And that’s good to know!! Hopefully mine are too if/when I get them.

Very interesting. Didn’t realize they were a dark meat but it makes sense being a Gamebird. Thanks.

Bobwhite aren’t allowed here without a permit. Just Coturnix and Button. I think they consider those domestic or livestock.
