:lauHilarious! I'm sorry, not that killing the chicks is funny, but when those nasty little fuzzy things start breaking her eggs:lau

Yup, just like the Muppet she's named after (cute, self-centered and constantly eating,) our Miss Piggy is funny and a bit twisted. She doesn't share anything with anybody - especially attention. Here's what she did to the last clutch that came near her ... and they weren't even hers!

The worst one is now called Iris, because that's the shape of the featherless scar on the back of her neck. The one in front of her is Hope, because we weren't sure she'd make it, but we were hoping ... and she did! The one on the far right was a little cockerel who had superficial cuts all over his side. Thank Heaven for BluKote & Neomycin. So Yup, it's funny now, because everyone survived and we can work around her fuzz-phobia. But, that said, it wasn't very funny last summer. If she wasn't such a good layer - and part of a critically endangered breed - we may well have been serving Piggy Soup for dinner!

I'm noticing a bit of temp fluctuation today in the incubator. Probably has to do with the fact it's 73 outside and my house is heating up. Removed the towel I had wrapped around the base of the bator and the temp dropped back down to between 99- 99.8 instead of the 100.7 it was up to when I checked it a couple hours ago.
Tomorrow I'll probably have to put it back since it's only going to be a high of 46.... really disliking this bipolar West Virginia Spring. LOL

If you see that she is sitting tight..go for it. You said she was .. .. going... broody. Wait until you see her in there all snuggled down. And, it's up to you if you want to put chicks under her. I've had different experiences both ways..some accept them this way, some don't. I've even had the same hen accept them one year and not the next. Not sure why, she was in the same area as before. :idunno

She was in the nest nice and tight for the last three days. I went ahead and picked up 12 new hatching eggs this morning and spent the afternoon making her a separate space. Then I found her out in the yard dust bathing. Gah! Here’s hoping she’ll go back to the nest. Wasn’t planning on moving her until after dusk so we’ll see what happens. :fl
