Congrats!!!

I agree that first dozen is hard to collect. But just to make you smile... We get a dozen every 3 days or so now... 6 of 8 are laying and we average 2 to 4 eggs a day...

Keep smiling..

Very pretty eggs BTW!!!

Here's a pic of mine (well the latest dozen and a half)

I have 7 hens of various ages (I think one is too old to lay, but it was a package deal). I know that 3 of them are laying, so the eggs are from 3 Buff Orpingtons.
I believe it took almost a month to get a dozen eggs...

I see 4 different shades .thats nice hopefully for you it won't take as long for the next dozen

So am I correct in thinking that I actually have 4 laying at this time? That's what I was thinking, initially, but I don't know enough yet to know for sure. If that's the case I have to figure out who the 4th is & why Ethel has all of a sudden stopped laying (the darkest brown eggs)!

Its possible for a hen to lay different shade but my bo lays 1sometimes it has specks on it but still the same shade. Try giving your girls less corn and scratch and more protein and calcium. I got my bo as a hen she has an injured leg, I thought when I got her she might not lay because of the move. But she was happy from day 1 giving me 5 or 6 eggs. A week. To be honest I never asked how old she was when I got her. I was just so happy to be getting eggs
