I live in San Diego, CA. A year ago when Dad died, I had to go to the Social Security office to get information needed to finalize his paperwork. The line started outside, crowded, nearly no one spoke English that I could hear. I went inside and took a number from the machine, and was asked if I wanted to be called in English or Spanish. When room to sit inside was available, I counted how many times in the over 200 seats were called to the desk in English. Twice, including me (this after sitting over two hours).
I go to the hospital for tests, and nearly all the parked cars have plates from Mexico. I go to the grocery store and stand in lines and listen to families with heavy accents brag that they get food stamps while talking about their newest I Pads, getting their nails done, going to the movies, and bragging that they aren't worried about not having jobs.
I go to the outlet center in San Ysidro (that's in California) where those working have English as a second language or not at all. Futher into CA, busloads from the border drop off shoppers ready to spend. They live in Mexico, but want better educations for their children so bring them here every morning, back home every night. When my granddaughters lived with me, the youngest was in elementary school. Filling out forms, I did not want to fill out the one for free lunches, so trashed it. I got a follow up letter asking me to hand it in. I refused, then got another one stating that by filling it in as needed, and NOT FILLING IN HER SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER was fine, the school would still get money for this, and she'd get free lunch, and that nobody would check to verify the social security number. Now wait, with taxes here, we are currently paying nearly 80% of this towards public schools. Where is the money going?
Nothing will change because we have busloads of people with money coming in to spend it. We have the highest city taxes in the two closest cities to Mexico...until people get together and demand that we need to stop giving money away, including free bus triips on school buses for adults whom want to learn English to and from schools while we have to pay not only for them, but for our own kids transportations.
I have a friend whom teaches classes on childcare/childbirth. The ratio for English speaking mothers and those whom are temporarily here from Mexico is between 2-3 on English out of a class on the average of 22 women. And out of those, nearly all are single women between 16-20. They come because other friends/family members did it, and why not? The Government picks up the tab.
If you combine the costs of free before school meals, lunches and the price of ink in making every paper sent home from schools in both English and Spanish, this isn't cheap. Add manditory health care before starting and during school, it adds up. In San Diego County, we've watched as hospitals folded to close because no one finishes picking up the tabs of what was started and promised.
How about enforcing, then making it manditory with surprise checks on everyone getting Government assistance for chemical testing, and if anyone in the household proves positive, they can't get it?
How about not allowing food stamp cards in the casinos? (about fell over when I saw that) Yep, can use it in the ATMs...
How about giving small businesses and initiative to stay in CA or the USA by first lowering taxes, and taking care of small businesses instead of treating them like idiots (the $250,000, really? Total monies? Good luck in that?)
How about a President whom shows some class by using a bus to support strengthing USA businesses on his tour touting jobs made in and built in Canada? Or after listening to the heartbreaking stories of individuals whom are flat out scared, turns around to golf then vacation for ten days at the most expensive place possible?
How about encouraging out of country businesses to bring their businesses here?
I ask small business owners, four years ago, how many people did you employ? What about two years ago? A year? Now?
What would it take to bring them back in?
What would happen, fiscally if we chose to offer these things to companies? Would it encourage, bring jobs in, bring life to communities? In the long run, bring money back into the Government? Make us stronger, healthier? Would it resupply and provide monies for SSI, make the insurance companies compete in a healthy way?
How about transparancy all around, both in the Government and in Unions so we can demand trimmings for money spent, or demand that the money go to where it should go, or the boot out? How about reminding those in political offices that they work for us, and that papers will not be signed unless they stop treating us like we have no brains, give no excuses over lengthy contents or where the moon is or whatever they believe we will fall for, and just do their jobs?
Wouldn't it be nice if everyone in political office whom has a credit/debit card which we pay for, if their monthly statements were up for public view online? One card doesn't sound like much, but I wonder, mulitplied by many, how much is really neccessary.
And if all the above were inforced, transparancy true, what would the numbers look like? Six months from now. One year from now. Two years from now...
