I bought the LG-- for $50 at the feed store. I've hatched a lot of chicks in it. If you gt the LG look up the LG support threads--lots of help on how to use this incubator and get good results. IT is not a set it and forget it type. I suggest turning by hand if you only have one incubator as the turner puts off heat and you must turn that off at lockdown, so the temp will drop. THis may not happen with other machines--IDK other machines.
I've been using a LG for over twenty years now. I have two. Got a batch in one ready for lock down in a couple days. I even wrote an article how I use mine. Can read it here http://naturalchickenkeeping.blogspot.com/2013/02/great-tricks-for-using-inexpensive.html

After twenty four years using one kind, I am now considering trying something new.

We will be setting Partridge Silkies, OEG x Silkie, Polish mixes, BCM mixes, Barred Rock mixes, Turken, Wyandotte, Brahma, Silkie mixes... I know I've forgotten some.... All in the same pen so it's all a fun backyard mix! Only purebred at this point will be the Partridge Silkies.

:)

Welcome to all of you that have joined the party!
where do I sign up?
You just did.

I did it. I went and bought an incubator at IFA when I got feed and pine shavings tonight. I have no idea how good it is or anything, but I figure that if it's a terrible one, it will be less encouraging for me to hatch more chicks than I need. I think it said it was a Farm Innovators 2100 - still air.

So I am officially in on this hatch! I've got my Icelandics separated so that I can collect their eggs come the first of March. I hope I get more than one or two eggs from them in that time, lol

I recommend buying the Brinsea Spot Check thermometer - it is accurate to .1 degree. It was the best thing I've ever bought for incubating. It's $30, but well worth it - I haven't had a bad hatch since I got it. I have both a Hovabator still air and a Brinsea Octogon40.
Wow, this is some big deal! How do you decide who wins? I'm wondering if there's anyone here in Canada willing to sell/ship hatching eggs to me in Ontario for this event?
There are winners for the contests, which we are still working on - but the hatching is just for fun to do it as a group. There area a lot of breeders in Canada, I'm sure someone will be able to send you some eggs.

I'm in again! Wouldn't miss it. Even ordered my new brinsea. Good bye lg. I hope we have a list of participants. Its always interesting to see how many people join and the thousands of eggs set.

Also someone was talking turkey. Last year there was a turkey hatch following this one.

Oh and where's mahonri...it wouldn't be the same without him and "Mn" lol
