To be honest Tad I was completely ignorant to their size and that they arent frightened by buildings and all that human stuff!! That VIDEO I posted on the link SHOCKED me to be honest! I am no longer ignorant, and the death sounds of the hen certainly put me in a spot!!

When I was having my hawk problem, I started one called Relentless Hawk....Help!. The feedback was mostly helpful and positive, but there were a few pretty nasty folks, who didn't appreciate any form of hawk control other than penning the chickens. I had to block one of them , I was getting so upset. Seems like such a simple discussion topic, but, SOME PEOPLE! Geesh!

While I don't support hawk control in MY area, I don't think it was fair of anyone to be nasty towards you. Around here it's illegal to kill hawks due to them being endangered and aside from that they keep part of the pest and some of the predator population down. I draw the same line with them that I do with snakes. If it kills one of my birds, it has to die. This past summer we had one try to go in the door of the coop while it was locked. None have tried it since.

Ok...see right when I think I am doing good online something like this stumps me! I am going to my user name on the Top right side of the BYC page, clicking, then clicking on Edit Community Profile. I removed the 3rd Annual and inserted the 4th Annual and saved. It is showing the change there but not here when I post.

What in the world am I doing wrong?

Hmmm, for some reason it won't post your quote. Anyway, I'm in agreement. Before I owned chickens I loved Hawks. There was just something majestic about them. Now, I could care less if I ever saw one again. If there is a spider outside, I tell the kids to leave it alone, if it's in the house, it's fair game. Same for mice, bees, etc... A Hawk out in nature is beautiful...eating my chicken, fair game. Just my philosophy...

Well, my runs are 50 X 80 feet and 25 by 60 feet. I don't completely free range (unless supervised) as we are in a very high predator area. Even with 6 foot high fencing, I've lost hens to hawks, bobcats and foxes during the day.

I don't know, but I fixed it for you.

I have free ranged my birds for the last 3 years during the warmer months. Had my first hawk attack last summer. All he got was a bunch of feathers. I attribute my bird's survival on plenty of hiding spaces throughout the property. Lots of shrubbery! Its the foxes that are my biggest problem every year. Think I'll go check out your thread Sally!
On a lighter note, here's another lovely gift from the hubby from his trip. Coasters!
