The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

Day 19 here and impatiently waiting! Come on, chickies!!! I'm seeing a few folks with chicks hatching with umbilical cords still attached. My first hatch was a couple weeks ago. Almost all of my daughter's bantam cochins hatched like this. All of the cords dried up and fell off in a few days but it really freaked me out at first! You can see the cord on this guy who was napping on his back:

Great to hear that everyone's hatches are going good......me on the other hand.... Out of 12 eggs, 11 of them were fertile and developing, so my hopes were up. Seven of them made it too lockdown, so I guess that was good. From there there were only two that were alive and started pipping, after piping a hole, they both died. I have no eggs hatching, all dead, all a waste of time. I think my LG incubator has served it's purpose long enough.....time to toss it and get a new one.

On the bright side, I already have a brooder full of 34 chicks and 2 ducklings......so this bad hatch isn't hitting us too hard. Hope everybody else's hatches go great. Good luck everybody!!

I'm sorry! My first hatch didn't go so great, but I'm hopeful for this one. But it sounds like you're stocked up with a full brooder
