Quote: We really love the ducks!! They handle rain very well!!! I have muscovy and Muscovey are a little different than other ducks: they like to perch up high on eyerails ( top rail of horse fencing) or top of coops.Ours are trained to go into a coop at night with the chickens. I can't imagine living without them now. I raised the ducklings in the house in a plastic bucket at night and out in a pen during the day. Hardy cutelings.

Well, I finally went out and collected eggs from the RIR pen. Can you say nasty mud? I ended up tieing plastic bags to my feet to keep my shoes clean!

The mud stained the eggs so bad I can hardly tell what's what and the RIR eggs almost look like Marans eggs! Let's just say I had a good laugh at the color change.

I wish I had eggs to hatch for myself (all the chicks I hatch from my eggs go to the feed store), but I'm broke again. We just bought a crib and we have lots more stuff to get so there's no way I can order eggs, which means no EE or blue splash orps. Maybe next time!

Raz-- buy as much second hand clothing as you can, and baby blankets, too. ( Blankets are for laying the baby on the floor NOT for in the crib) The babies grow out their clothes VERY fast and into the next size. Cloth diapers come in new designs, wash and hang to dry = much cheaper than years of disposables. Lots of ways to cut costs. Find a mothers group to connect with, and get hand me downs from those friends. I often find a bag of childrens clothes under the hay tarp! lol

I posted on my hatching thread but just had to share here! I had two pip yesterday and were there at 5am this morning :) One of my Rouen Ducks is pipping now I hope it comes today and can be a Valentine duck! Other than those though no pips out of the other 23 eggs! However, I can't stay away and keep checking LOL I will get nothing accomplished today. Here is a pic of my two babies they are silkie/frizzle chicks!

They have alot of yellow on their faces and tips of wings and underside that you can't see in the pic! Hopefully will have a better pic later!
