Wish I had an extra incubator, cause if I did I'd probably try hatching some myself!![]()
Quote: We really love the ducks!! They handle rain very well!!! I have muscovy and Muscovey are a little different than other ducks: they like to perch up high on eyerails ( top rail of horse fencing) or top of coops.Ours are trained to go into a coop at night with the chickens. I can't imagine living without them now. I raised the ducklings in the house in a plastic bucket at night and out in a pen during the day. Hardy cutelings.![]()
Aren't they just gorgeous!! Feels like a special present every time I collect mine!!
Can you run out??? I build a homemade, then started stacking, almost limitless space. . . . almost!!!Two dozen more eggs came today! Running out of space!
Raz-- buy as much second hand clothing as you can, and baby blankets, too. ( Blankets are for laying the baby on the floor NOT for in the crib) The babies grow out their clothes VERY fast and into the next size. Cloth diapers come in new designs, wash and hang to dry = much cheaper than years of disposables. Lots of ways to cut costs. Find a mothers group to connect with, and get hand me downs from those friends. I often find a bag of childrens clothes under the hay tarp! lolWell, I finally went out and collected eggs from the RIR pen. Can you say nasty mud? I ended up tieing plastic bags to my feet to keep my shoes clean! The mud stained the eggs so bad I can hardly tell what's what and the RIR eggs almost look like Marans eggs! Let's just say I had a good laugh at the color change.![]()
I wish I had eggs to hatch for myself (all the chicks I hatch from my eggs go to the feed store), but I'm broke again. We just bought a crib and we have lots more stuff to get so there's no way I can order eggs, which means no EE or blue splash orps. Maybe next time!![]()
Quote: THe anticipation is a killer . . . the trill of an olive egg is worth the wait!!!! I have a couple girls that have just started laying olives in the last few weeks. A delight to find, the dark olive is unique. I did keep a few roosters ( 4) for breeding more!!![]()
