Whew, Caught up yet again. Boy this thread is moving fast. Seems like I go away for a few mins and I've got 5 pages of reading to do LOL

Love the goat pics.... SO darn cute. I've wanted goats for years but hubby says no (you'd think after 17 yrs he'd learn, I WILL eventually get them LOL)
Loving all the egg pics. I cant wait till the 30th. My broody is doing her job and keeping them nice and warm. So proud of my broody.. she's been sitting since Dec!!

As of this morning, I have 1 new chick. He's a big one!!! really fluffy. The girl I got them from said they were Amerucauna (sp) eggs (I was thinking EE) but he looks different than my EE chicks. Hmmmmmm.... the mysteries of chick husbandry. Will get a pic asap of the chick and see what y'all think.

Yeehaw!!! We got home from church and my husband calls me to the bator!!!! There was an egg pipped !!! And now just before I head to bed(soooo tired) the first one that pipped is zipping and another one (my only green egg) has pipped!!!! I can hear chirping awe!! I am glad I am sooo tired or I could never sleep!

I'm a first time incubator: So I see in a few photos that some people have double stacked eggs on the turner. Does that work? They won't roll around/fall off when it turns? (Very excited if it means I can fit more eggs next try.

)

It works temporarily. The egg doesn't get turned as well stacked on top, but you can get by with it until you candle and remove the duds, then you can move the stacked eggs into the turner.

Whew! Had a bit of a scare last night!

There were some high wind gusts and our power went out around 3:30AM!!! Might not have woke up in time but my brother heard the pipes gurgling downstairs and we heard my sister's runner ducklings peeping loudly because their heat lamp had suddenly gone out! So relieved to find that the incubator was only down to 99F! It dipped to 96F briefly while they were setting up the generator (thank God we have a nice new BIG one that we got last fall! It runs the whole house!) and then the incubator quickly warmed back up to its usual 100.6F! PHEW!!!

Thankfully it was just a quick fix and the main power was back on by 7:30 AM.

Except for some lost sleep everything is fine.

I have wrapped the bator in heavy quilts during a power outage. Seems to have worked well. We don't get to many of those out here in California. Sure is nerve racking tho.
Was feeding the horses last night when I flipped a bale of hay over to load 12 at least baby mice with all direction. My rhode island hens just went crazy trying to catch them. Had fresh meat for dinner..

we set 8 eggs total for the Easter hatch, but have no pics to share. Is that still OK? Can we participate? We set them the morning of Saturday, March 9th.

I'm always amazed when I see a chicken eat a mouse. You'd think they would choke! Nah! Good stuff! Seems I have everybody's farm cats taking care of them for me this winter. My dog gets the odd one too.

button quail: 16 days to hatch; set March 14th
coturnix quail: 18 days to hatch; set March 12th
