Quite the variety! Yay!

In the home stretch for the first egg now. How far behind is the 2nd egg?
Well I have three eggs. The second egg is a week behind the first I was talking about. And the third (set for this hatch-along) still has a ways to go lol.

17 DAYS !?!? wow its getting so close now.

Oh YAY! You have go to be excited. Because I sure know we all are.

I have a question.. I read thru hatching 101 and didn't find the answer. I have 2 bators, one qith fan for days 1-18 and a still air for lockdown, what should my temp be for the still air during the lockdown as they'll be coming out of 99.5? Hope this makes sense amd thanks for the help.

The mid point of the eggs are supposed to average 99 to 99.5. They can be as low as 98.5. You need to average the top of the egg with the bottom of the egg. This requires two thermometers that work well.

It would be:

101 at the top
98 at the bottom = 199\2=99.5.

@ronott1 thank you. I have 23 that go into lock down Thursday and my first time using seperate bator for hatcher. On another note my silkie roos are doing their job. The ones I set Saturday to check fertility have veins and fluttery heart. Yea!!!

Need a name for this recipe-- just winged it and the boys LOOOOOVE it!

In an oven proof pan, layer in chicken breasts ( no bone) and slather on mayo to dover. Be generous.
Sprinkle on cracked black pepper, garlic salt, oregano, almond flour and parmasan cheese. Bake til cooked thru at 350 for about 1 hour until lightly browned.

My kids are sucking this down. Very juicy, not dry, and tastey. I have been skipping the deboned chicken breasts lately because they are dry and tough. Not these.

"Chicken DeMayo"

You know its pretty bad when you wake up and all you can think about is finding more fertile hatching eggs and figuring out how to sqeeze them into the incubator lol. I have absolutely no space left in the bator but I have such an urge to set more eggs. The first batch doesn't move from the bator until 3/10 and it will only open up 7 spaces. What to do what to do.

Ahhh....you have come to the right place. Take it from a current addict, I have all the cures for your woes. I can barely eat eggs any more for the thought of lost potential chicks.
There is stacking, always fun, like tetris with eggs, be very careful with turning though. Can also be time consuming.
A quick trip to the feed store to buy another, or those great coolers at walmart are an easy conversion
Or my favorite, creative incubator excessive jamming. I remove all turners, bars, etc to hold eggs in place, and stand every egg on end from one side of the bator to the other until they are snug between each other. Then tilt the bator for turning. I am currently doing this in my sportsman for hatching as well. I can't fit them all if I lay them on the side, and cartons take up too much room, so I stood them up and went from side to side lol
I have a question for those of you doing staggered hatches: How do you manage your brooders/space?

Last year I hatched and brooded one batch at a time, but this year I expect to be setting eggs every week. Do I need a brooder for each batch? How long can pass between the first chick hatched and the last one you can safely add to that brooder?
Again....fellow addict here to help you out...
I have a tupperware brooder in the house for the first week and when it was warmer they spent the next 6 weeks in a metal horse trough in the garage with a light strung above. Then they went outside to a small run with dog house in it. I am able to clip a light for that dog house if needed for heat.
Now because I too am hatching every week my hubby is building me a brooder in the garage. I will keep chicks between 1 week and 1 month in that brooder, then probably the next month in the trough.

Hmmmm....not tooo creative, but my hubby is currently building me a brooder!
I'm in! Will be my first time hatching eggs AND those chicks hatched will be my first chicks too!! Cannot wait! Been waiting for this for a YEAR! :) Going to be buying the Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco to hatch in. Hopefully I won't drive everyone too crazy with pics and questions ;-)

Jen
You will love the brinsea. Great choice!

Bring it on, Jen! Most of us are already crazy, you won't make it worse!

Not laughing at you...laughing with you...Definately crazy here

I don't use a hygrometer anymore . . . . the eggs tell me if they are at the proper humidity-- by candling not that they actually talk, lol.
I agree on not needing the hygrometer during incubation, but I don't understand how people get away without having one at hatch.

Woah. My easter hatch along emu egg's brother/sister (not sure if you'll be able to follow that lol.) (not the one set for this hatch-along) Is on day 35 of incubation, and when I took it out to weigh it yesterday, it was wiggling and wobbling all over the scale!! I hadn't seen it go this crazy before lol. Just 17 more days!

P.S. I'll be weighing the egg I set aside for this hatch along emu in a couple days, I'll keep you all posted

I think more pics or video's are needed. lol

Now you tell me...I just got caught up! Just kidding, so glad you are doing this Ron, there are some days it is just tooo much.
