We are IN!!!

After months of research and getting our chickens "just so" my 15 year old daughter, Hannah, and I will be doing our first "Hatch Along"!! We plan to set FBCM eggs and possibly some of the FBCM over buff orpington. We just wanna see what the maran/orpington chicken grows up to look and lay like…experimenting is fun!!

We recently bought a 5 month old pair of black bantam cochins (my daughter's favorite) and if she lays, we will let her sit and add those to our number too!!

We have a 4 test eggs (French Blue Copper Maran over a French Black Copper Maran) in our Little Giant incubator right now that were started on March 1st. This is our first ever try at incubating…keeping our fingers crossed and hoping our little fuzzy butts make it through without any issues!!

Welcome!

Not sure if I can join in. My incubator will be occupied but maybe I'll have a broody hen that can accommodate the schedule.

I had to look up Friesian fowl, they are beautiful!

I have a question. Sorry if this has been asked already. There are so many pages of posts for this Easter hatch along, I would be here all day searching! Why is the set date for chicken eggs the 29th? 21 days from that (hatching day) would be April 18th, not the day before Easter. What am I missing?
Since we are setting at noon on the 29th, that first day doesn't count. Day 1 starts on March 30th and hatch would be April 19th. If temps are off, then they may hatch a bit earlier, or a bit later. Basically, it was chosen to have the hatch mostly done on Easter, as a lot of people are gone that day. The most important is that we are all setting and hatching together.

I just ordered eggs from Chickengirl1304 for the hatch! I am getting a dozen each of Langshans, Cream Legbars, and Black Copper Marans! I could have hatched more of my own eggs from my black Langshans, white Am Bresse, Pita Pintas, and farmyard mixes but it will be fun to hatch some new breeds!

Woah. My easter hatch along emu egg's brother/sister (not sure if you'll be able to follow that lol.) (not the one set for this hatch-along) Is on day 35 of incubation, and when I took it out to weigh it yesterday, it was wiggling and wobbling all over the scale!! I hadn't seen it go this crazy before lol. Just 17 more days!

P.S. I'll be weighing the egg I set aside for this hatch along emu in a couple days, I'll keep you all posted

In the home stretch for the first egg now. How far behind is the 2nd egg?

:celebrate Im eggcited to see the pics when it hatches.

Hmm I've been thinking of adding another breed to my Easter Hatch a Long...anyone have any Welsummer eggs they'll be selling around that time on the east coast or central? Not show quality but nice backyard flock quality.

Ive got my brandnew bator set up and ready to go. :D Holding temps like a champ for 24 hrs now. Its a Farm Innovators Circulated Air with Turner. Much more set and forget than my homemade bator from last year.

I have a question.. I read thru hatching 101 and didn't find the answer. I have 2 bators, one qith fan for days 1-18 and a still air for lockdown, what should my temp be for the still air during the lockdown as they'll be coming out of 99.5? Hope this makes sense amd thanks for the help. :)

Need a name for this recipe-- just winged it and the boys LOOOOOVE it!

In an oven proof pan, layer in chicken breasts ( no bone) and slather on mayo to dover. Be generous.
Sprinkle on cracked black pepper, garlic salt, oregano, almond flour and parmasan cheese. Bake til cooked thru at 350 for about 1 hour until lightly browned.

My kids are sucking this down. Very juicy, not dry, and tastey. I have been skipping the deboned chicken breasts lately because they are dry and tough. Not these.

Call it something boring like "Baked Chicken Breast", then when ppl try it they'll want the recipe. hehehe

Juicy Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast
Yummy Chicken Breast
No Leftovers Chicken Breast

I'm not good at names, but maybe those will give you a jumping off point? =)
