No words.... In a weird sort of way I wish I had one of those little oddballs running around here!

They're like potato chips, you can't have just one!!!
I had just one for a whole year!!! I could hardly stand it; I had to get more and I couldn't wait for her to start laying either.

Maaaan, I thought I was safe in coming here "just to observe" because I thought it would be too late to set for an Easter Hatch (based on my recollection of last year's dates). Crap. Now I have to pick my best incubator, clean and set it up to check its operation, then secure eggs. Darn you all. ;) I just bought ten pullet chicks this week, too. Oh well. They're hatchery/feed store stock, so I think I may have to check with Papa Brooder for some good breeders' eggs. So count me in.

Quote: Yeah, setting for Calls is the 24th, and other ducks the 22nd...I think, I didn't check the exact date. Thanks for the advice Sara!!

Quote: I met a man off of here at a local chicken meet up, and walked up and introduced myself as Gardeningmama...he looked really confused and said "I thought you were a grandmother", lol. I was in a pinch picking a name, and looked over at my daughter sitting on the sofa playing CookingMama.....I love to garden, so I said Gardeningmama...sounds good.

Quote: I always had all of mine on layer pellets, and then someone off of here, whose opinion I value, recommended I switch to a 20% protein feed. So, in mid-December, I switched to Flockraiser, and by the 2nd week in January all of my hens had started laying again. I really think the feed did it. Now I just supplement with the oyster shell.

Blue and green eggs are extremely hard to capture in pictures. Ive been practicing ALOT. I have hundreds of egg pictures. My kids keep asking me "Mom why are you taking pictures of the eggs AGAIN" lol. I tell them because I am in love with my eggs.
I put up a whole thing on FB about how much I love my eggs. I take more pictures of them than I do my kids

I don't care what anyone says, I don't care if it snows tomorrow, I don't care if the chicken's water is block of ice in the morning. For me, spring is here!!!!

Your pictures give me hope. Pa. will be about 2 weeks or so behind Va.so I know it's coming. Today, I taught Sunday School and we talked about Daylight Savings & Praying for Spring to come. I hadn't planned a lesson so it sounded good to me. Then we got out all of the crafts, made a huge mess and made Spring scenes (There's still snow everywhere here, mind you

Quote: sounds like a plan worth trying anyways I honestly do think it is the feed. so I am looking for a 20% protein feed? do you feed that all year around or just for winter?

I am very tempted to spend my day "window Shopping" TCS and the other local feed stores, just to look at the cute chickies.

Anyone else think that might be a bad idea.
I am glad I am NPIP and CANNOT window shop! ha ha ha!!

Since everyone else is showing off their frizzles:

Here's Snoodle:

And here is the first egg I've gotten from her:
I'm not sure yet whether it's absolutely her first egg or whether she was hiding them before I cooped her on Monday.
(the one at the top is hers; the bottom one is a Comet egg, for encouragement/instruction) ;)

YES!!! my chickens started laying again. they took an (extended) break but I got three beautiful eggs this morning! good, as long as they keep this up I can add some of my own eggs to my incubators for the hatch a long.

The video is ready.

OH YEA!!!! Glad you joined us!!!! get scrubbin!!! HA HA HA

The number of eggs that will be setting just increased exponentially. I just found a wine cooler-bator for $100!
Now, what to fill it with?

good for you!!! snag them up!!! A friend suggested putting calls out to repair places and snag straight from them.... not a bad idea!

Awesome! Never seen anything like that'

I have thought that if someone could ever record their broody hen talking to her eggs that they could make some money selling the recording to us hatchaholics to play in our incubators. I for one would love to conduct an experiment to see if the hen's encouragement affects the hatching rate positively.
