I had some moron try to ship me eggs in an egg carton stuffed into a bubble envelope. And the idiot at the post office TOLD him to do it that way that they would be fine. I'm not sure which of them was stupider!!!

It's nice to see peoples pre-Easter hatches going into lockdown and hatching. Looking forward to pictures of all the chicks!

Well I shall have an interesting time of it. Because of technical delays (disasters) I got my pre-Easter hatch set late so that Hatching Day is the same as Setting Day for Easter Hatchalong. I am converting the fish tank brooder into a hatcher so I can conduct the lockdown in it and free the incubator for he Easter eggs.

Other than you'll want to open that package outside, anyone have thoughts on that method.

I did not realize they shipped fertile eggs. For a company that all their business is about is shipping they REEEAAAALLLYYYYY need to rethink their process.

Cynthia12, check Grannychick55 and ask if she has any Collana eggs. They are clean faced and rumpless. They are a landrace from South Am. They are one of the ancestors of the Auracanas.
They lay blue and other colors. Right now she has one hen that lays lilac with yellow spots.

I have some of these on order from Grannychick55 for the hatch-a-long. I hope her ladies coop-erate. I am so excited!

Operation Build a Broody phases 2 and 3 are complete (phase 1 was buying broody breeds a year ago

) Got more golf balls and installed curtains

Nice! I hope your lure works! I have 2 hens plucking their bellies now - a barnevelder and an olive egger.

The broody breeds in that coop are Australorps, Speckled Sussex and a Chocloate Barred Rock. My Dels are in there too but they are not known to be broody. The Choc Rock is a project from ChooksChick that I hatchd last year. She told me that many of the Choc Rocks have been very broody so

And Icelandics are known to be broody as well.

I just candled the eggs in my bator.... still have 25 chicken and 4 duck eggs developing.

I am so happy, this incubation has been my best ever so far!

Good Mornin' everybody!! I woke up to 5 hatched chicks this morning!

And I got my first Royal Palm egg yesterday!

And still in the turner! Congrats on the chicks and the turkey egg!

@ronott1 I will definitely be incubating that turkey egg plus whatever she lays between now and set day

Buff Orpingtons. Believe it or not, we are hoping for a couple of a roosters. Need them to breed with our current ladies. We also have a hen sitting on some of the eggs. If hers are good we should see chicks in a day or so from her.

Not too often that one hopes for roosters. Good luck! When I hope for pullets, I get cockerels. I wonder if hoping for cockerels will give you pullets?

Good Morning everyone! Spring made another attempt here in Michigan yesterday - 50 degree temps and sun and lots of melting! I think we have already lost most, if not all of the 6+ inches of snow that fell earlier this week! HURRAY!!!

And to top it off, the sap is running nicely in the Maple trees - not only did our standby back Maple start running, but our front Maple tree ran for the first time (that we have caught it) in the last 3 years of tapping!!! Maple Syrup here we come!! After a brief cool down today and tomorrow, it looks like 40's all next week and maybe beyond!

Now if only the flood in our backyard would drain so I can get back to the Rock coop without a canoe...

I tried to encourage our veteran broody BO to think about sitting again yesterday, by giving her extra eggs while she was sitting in a nest to lay her egg. She took them readily enough, but later I found her out running around with the others. Oh well, she has TWO WEEKS to think about it. Meanwhile I will air out the Styro Incubators and prepare to start eggs in them if necessary.

I am getting excited with all the cute chick and duckling pics on here!
