First, I just HAVE to ask chicken pickin what was with the orange balloons in the photo of the hens... I can't believe nobody else asked!

Second, a friend and I went to opening day at Daffodil Hill, just outside of Volcano (California).

Those are just a couple of blossom photos I took with my cell phone. We got there as the place opened, beautiful in the early morning light.

LOL it is an orange bucket that I brought out carrying their water.

How do you best answer the "how many chickens do you have now?" question?

I have been avoiding exact numbers with "not enough" and "look, over there!"

Anyone turn an entire barn into a coop? I may need to do that the way chicken math is headed!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! I have five days till my first hatch date! I am so eggcited!
Better get the Brooder ready! Have all the hatching thing ready to go too. Qtips Scissors tweezers a cup for any with leaky navels poly vi sol baby drop without iron fresh batteries for the candler and flaslight Zip ties, toe punch bands Happy hatching!
Wow, I have never even used over half that stuff.. Not sure what I would even do with all of it.... Interesting list..

I will be hatching Bielefelders and barthuhners. The wife agreed to let me get them because A they are fairly rare and B she thinks they look awesome... Such a relief. A little later I'll be getting sulmtalers... Can't wait the Bielefelder Roos can be 10+ lbs... Those will be some beefy birds!
I didn't even finish reading the rest of the thread because i saw Bielefelder lol- Here is my boy King- he is huge, the pictures don't do him justice. and he is maybe a year, i am pretty sure I got him in march last year. the hens aren't much bigger than normal hens but the roosters are definitely huge! and he is fairly docile too, he never starts fights (and I have 7 other roosters) and he even lets me pet him. I am sure you know what bielefelders look like but for anyone who doesn't know he is right in the middle of the photo.
That is another breed I wish I could get ahold of.....

I actually got mine by accident, I ordered 6 blue breda chicks from green fire farms and they accidentally shipped me bielefelders !! when i told them they said to keep them and then they sent me my bredas too. I sold off the other 3 and kept a trio for myself.
